20 gallon saltwater aquarium started leaking

I would do what ever is easier for sure. If the LFS will hold them 1 less thing for you to worry about. They should be fine in the bucket overnight with a heater and surface agitation for air.

Just a thing to keep in mind - unless they are kept in their own tank at the LFS they will be exposed to the entire system as far as disease/parasites. Another option may be the LFS could lend you a tank. Your important parts like the filter and substrate are fine so no big deal about all new water.

I’d do the 65 gallon. It is a larger volume of water. And the. Dose prime every 24 hours. You will have no casualties. I Highly suggest this route

What about the shrimp? Improper water will kill them

I went from a 20 gallon to my 60 gallon with no cycle as it tested fine 6 hours after adding ammonia..

Most of the bacteria that eats the ammonia is likely in your rock and sand if you move that over first you should be fine.. or maybe I got lucky?

There won’t be improper water should you dose prime every 24 hours. Maybe drip acclimate the shrimp

Yes agree on drip acclimating him I just meant as the tank is only 2 days cycled the shrimp which is already delicate could go to the LFS instead while the tank cycles further

I highly discourage this route. Prime does not eliminate ammonia. It only binds it into a harmless molecule, but is released with 24 hours, back as regular ammonia. If you continuously dose, one day it will catch up with you and all that accumulated ammonia will be released at once.

I would recommend as much bio spira as you can reasonably get

If you go to fix your leaking tank id suggest redoing all of the silicon as its generally only good for around 10 years once it starts leaking it will usually creep along leaking more good luck with your fish and shrimp =)

yeah i didn't think of that, the LFS that i go to seem to have a few dead fish or dying fish every time i go there. I currently have them split between 2 buckets w/ heaters. I'm considering just throwing biospira and prime w/ stability and hope for the best.

I have prime & stability together. I might just dose them in the 65 gallon, although doing further research i would have to take off my filter socks and not have put my protein skimmer on at all for awhile.

I could go that route as well, seeing my schedule the next few days it would take awhile before i have time to do that.

Hopefully if it was luck it goes my way also haha, I might just end up dosing the 65 and drip acclimating them into the 65 gallon and hope for the best. I would be able to put my live rock into the new system, i'm sure that'll help.

How about both prime & stability w/ what i have left of the biospira. Idk i'm torn between taking them to the LFS or just taking the chance in the 65.

I already emptied out the tank, if you sent this about an hr and a half ago i would've been willing to try anything haha, Thanks for the suggestion though.

Yes prime doesn’t eliminate ammonia. But it makes in non toxic and readily available to the bio filter. The OP said he had stability (bottled bac) if he doses prime and stability, it will give time for the BB to catch ups FB consume the ammonia.

Use biospira, a good size bottle should do. You can also add stability but it's more of the same. Test before using prime, you may never need it. I started my tank with biospira, 2 days later added my clowns, that was 3 years ago. Now I cycle with ammonia but this was before I knew anything.
