Ok. I’m just gonna do a skunk pair no other clown species. Do clowns host like Xenia or Coral?

clowns will use corals as hosts. I have had them use elegance corals, Duncan’s, Xenia, and hammer corals. I even had a nem present and sometimes they rather live in the coral lol

Yeah just trying to help a youngster out.
Should hear some of the stuff they get into on video games. Drives me crazy with my 13 yr old son.
Its totally awesome this youngster is getting into reefing.
Definitely not a video game and most folks are here to help and I'd like to see the youngster succeed for sure.
If a quarter of the advice given in this thread is taken he will have a better reef than most of ours for sure lol.

Same here im not sure what my clowns are thinking half the time.
I simply turned my red dial on my skimmer yesterday and they stayed there for a good hour totally mesmerized looking at it the whole time. The big one was even doing a wiggle dance so idk hahaha

I really like the skunk clowns I might do clown gobies instead though because clowns live in harems/nuclear families in the wild which I can’t replicate in a 20 long

Fish prices have gone up dramatically with shipping rates during pandemic.
Best advice would be go to lfs. See what you like and get some ideas on prices. Clowns range all over the place. You will find that for wrasse as well as tangs and probably ever species of fish.
Comes down to what you like and can maintain. Best bang for buck fish are not always the best fish and most require higher skill set than others.
Id set up tank and get a good feel for things and go from there.

Most do not. It is too expensive and not cost worthy. They get fish and coral in and sell it. Done.

Some of mine do. Most of my lfs sale systems are fully quarantine systems.
One won't sell them for certain amount of time.
Most probably don't. And longer kept fish and quarantine will most likely result in higher price.
Not all bad just have to see local lfs and how they handle them.
