Definitely you do not want to use play sand. Play sand is primarily silicate based which will do nothing for buffering & will feed diatoms.

Oh that’s what I was planning. I was talking if I did a large dsb but I’m gonna use Fiji pink and some rubble.Ok jawfish need bigger substrate, not fine sand, they also need rubble. They need this in order to properly build a burrow.

Ok. Could I do a dsb in the display fuge so I can have more bacteriaA DSB takes up a lot of space and a 20L is a shallow tank... so I would forget that idea.
DSB's also don't last forever.
