Mangroves grow really slow but ok to use. The biggest issue is most fish jump and creating a lid is difficult .

I saw some egg crate but thin and easy to cut someone used in a refugium hob mod. Mabye it could work because of its easy ness to cut

yah it just sort of ruins the seamless look.

nano fish can jump right out of typical egg crate but you can cover it with netting.

A net lid kit on eBay is $20 and clips for the lid are maybe $3 or free if you have a rimmed tank lol forget the saran wrap

absolutely not, no metal in or near aquarium, it will rust and get in the tank

and powder coated, so even worse for being near the tank, no powders or aerosol comes close to my reef

Won't have as much give as a net if a fish hits it but it might be fine, I don't know. I just used this one:
