20 tangs

Because sometimes you gotta make your own decisions and see how they turnout. When I added a purple tang a few months back and already had a yellow tang for over a year I was told it Would not work out, fast forward to now and they are doing great, also people would say my tank is way over stocked with fish and everyone is happy and it's also loaded with corals of all types that are thriving.

Nice looking tank!

The yellows would work just fine in a 500 gallon tank as in nature Yellows school together like several other species of tangs. The bunch of them would establish a pecking order which is natural and a weaker one or two may not make it unless they were all QT together and fed well to strengthen them all.

Powder Blues, and such similar fish are more solitary in the ocean, laying claim to large areas that they aggressively patrol to keep other algae grazing fish away. Often times they win the battle against most schools of other grazers unless that school is too large and sheer numbers overwhelm the sole ranger.
They are know to be territorial in tanks and aggressive toward similar shaped surgeons. While this is great advise to follow and limit your selection to one, There are a number of people in the hobby that have two powder blues or a powder blue and Achilles tang in the same tank along with others like the gold rim or powder brown.
While some get lucky and harmony exist for their fish, the true test will come when the fish start reaching mature age.
When tangs mature they tend to change behavior toward tank mates, especially other tangs. Most get lucky with tangs that have been together for years and mature together given enough space and foods.

I would not recommend anyone keeping 10 powder blue tangs in the same tank, disaster would be likely.
I would not be against trying two in that size tank as they could technically bypass one another given enough rock space and swimming room.
A better idea would be to mix the species of tangs in a tank that size and get them all small so they will grow together and likely continue to not have issues.

Just visit a friend early today, who is also a member here. He has a beautiful 300G Marineland. There was a Huge Blonde Naso, Hippo was enormous, a large Purple Tang, with other fish, and honestly 3 to 5 would have been max. So I can agree with others here opinion. Furthermore Powder Blue in my experience are territorial and are very nasty, therefore the powder blue should be last and only one. Why 20 tangs? What not mix it up?

Was great to have you over, your always welcome. Hope the frags grow great for you. And the SOHOL tang we traded is amazing, what a beauty. He will be loved. Good things come to those who wait in this hobby. There is always exceptions to every rule. But again like most folks are saying. So many other great fish to choose from why take the chance. WWC has schools of yellow tangs 7-12 in some of there 750 gallon frag farm tanks so that part is plausible. But the rest is not realistic.
