We are doing some renovations and I am going to be getting a 6 foot in wall tank installed. The exact width and height are still not set in stone but the tank will be no smaller than 200 gallons. As the tank is one of the final projects it will be some time before it is up and running. I wanted to get this thread up though to discuss ideas regarding the build and to vent my excitement so I don't drive everyone in my house nuts.

They should be prepared to be driven nuts anyway (or join us!!!)...but R2R may soften the drive a bit. ;)

Post up some plans/drawings when you can!

So my idea is to run a rubber maid tub as a sump for this tank. Has anyone had any experience with this? I would just have live rock and equipment in the tub. I also plan on having a separate display refugium to grow several types of macros. The one thing that really worries me is getting the right flow through everything. I have a horrible time understanding flow dynamics in a reef tank.

Following!

A tub works fine. Flow is not so important from DT to sump and back. The macros only remove a small portion of nutrients from the water on each pass; so passing more, faster, just passes a lot more un-processed water. Save your flow for your corals.

Depends also where everything is located. I use to have a 75g DT on the 1st floor piped down to rubbermaid sump in the basement. Lots of head pressure and set the flow a little higher then I am now since it was a large contributor to flow in the DT. Now I have a 250g in wall with the sump directly below the tank with a much slower exchange since I'm using pumps in the DT for the high flow. So a lot of this depends. Need more specifics on what your keeping and logisticaly the setup. Thanks,
