As the title state, I am getting ready to dose some fluconazole to treat bryopsis, and I was weighing out the powder to get the recommended 20mg/gal and I was very surprised to see that a 200mg capsule actually contained 400mg powder. So does that mean there is 200mg of filler in the powder? I know most pelleted medicine has fillers and binders to press the tablet, but i do not know if capsules are the same. Lastly, the packaging also says 200mg fluconazole so do I actually need to add 40mg/gal of the compounded material to yield 20mg/gal fluconazole?

Title should say Capsule not Tablet, sorry!

this may be a dumb question but u did hit the tare button to compensate the bottles weight right?

Most drug dosages are not composed of strictly the active ingredient. Fillers, binders, stabilizers and flow agents are added.

Calculate your dose based on the amount of active ingredient you want. So use the 40mg/gallon as you said.

6.1 List of excipients
(An excipient is a substance formulated alongside the active ingredient of a medication,[1] included for the purpose of long-term stabilization, bulking up solid formulations that contain potent active ingredients in small amounts (thus often referred to as "bulking agents", "fillers", or "diluents"), or to confer a therapeutic enhancement on the active ingredient in the final dosage form )

Lactose Monohydrate

Maize Starch

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate

Colloidal Anhydrous Silica

Magnesium Stearate

@WVNed got it! Capsules (and tablets) have fillers. So go by what the label claim states. In your case, 200 mg per capsule.
