Hi,
I attended my first meeting yesterday and got to meet a few people. It would be a real shame if the club came to an end -- I saw quite a few people last night enjoying themselves. I would offer to join the board if there's something I could do to help.
A little about me, I'm a newer reefer (180g started earlier this year, but going strong) returning to the hobby after a 15 year (or so) hiatus. I'm on the board for another club (Fine dining and wine in the Hartford area) so I have a decent idea of what I'm getting into. Professionally, I'm an IT Director for a Fortune 50 company in the Hartford area.
We have three weeks to resolve the 2019 club leadership issue, I'm hoping we have enough people to step up. I do have one stance already -- I don't think the club should just be a way to get free stuff. If that's what CTARS is becoming, I will withdraw my application for the board. It's really amazing that our sponsors are so generous that the club can even provide that opportunity, but reef education and social networking should be the priority. If you agree, I'd love to talk more about it -- if you don't agree, I'd love to talk more about that too.
Thanks for reading.
