This is a pic with the 20k that I ran before. Its very white in color.

This is awesome. I have a similar light mount design that is sitting in my wishlist on 8020.net

I made it from my 120's light rack.
It was simple to install and will last forever. Make sure you get stainless steel bolts. The black ones rust real quick as noted on my 120.

You're doing this purely for a test on if it beats LEDs? I ask because I have a MH I was thinking of using...but I'd want the addition of some blue in there somewhere...your tank looks great but the light makes everything look so...bland?

It only looks bland because its not filled in. Once corals are everywhere it will look different.

I am running this to compair it to the 20g I ran in this tank with 2 16hds.

Their will be no additional lighting on this system.

I ran 2 Orhek blue bars on my 120 but you cant really see the difference when the halides are on.
If I dont get the growth out of this 14k bulb I will replace it with one of my 250's.

My 120 running 14k with the halides only running.
Their is only a minor difference in look when the blues are on.

I still run 7 16hds on 2 seperate systems.
All of them run:
Uv, v,rb, b @100%
R, g, w, 50%
I adjusted to the above after running the nano for 8 months at,
Uv, v 140% rb, b, 125%
R,g 6%
W 30%
This is a good idea of the look I settled on. My 30g remote. Much whiter looking than my radions.

@A. grandis
Thought I would tag you on this build. Its Halide. You might enjoy it, lol.

Ok people I decided to hang and run the 250de 14K phoenix. Same as I ran on the 120. Should have enough par, lol.

Currently 13" from the surface.
I will get a pic up later when it comes on. Was 14" from the surface on the 120.

I just took out the 150 variable as I know what the 250's will do from past experience.

What do you think Grandis?
Going to run 8hrs with no supplemental as its not needed.
Although I run all led, except this one, it shold be fun to see how fast the system gets overgrown. Probably wont take long as many of the frags are larger insize.

Anyway what do you guys and gals think?

Lot's of punch in that particular fixture. Looking good. You need to post a picture with the lights on. LOL! Cheers!

I love it. Personally, I would add at least 2 T5s and run it 6-8 hours but it's great to see halides get the attention they deserve. It's crazy to me how many people have never experienced them and all they know is LED. Looks great man.

Ill get a pic when lights come on in a couple hours. It wii be interesting to see the difference in visual color, if any, between the 150 and 250. Both 14K but different brands.
Stay tuned!

Haha that’s a mental amount of light for that 20g. I love it, but wondering how it will do with the heat.

Heat should not be an issue. Room stays 79-80 year round due to the snakes.
The 150 is running 77 with the Tunze fan. The 45 in the same room runs 80-81 with no fan.

Ran a 600 watt over the 45 for awhile with no heat issues. Also ran the 250 for over a year with no temp issues. 45 has been up 3 years now.

I enjoy your build threads as you aren't afraid to simply try it and measure the results. Following along.

Great! Thanks for the invitation!
Gotta love Acros!

Much better color from the phoenix bulb.
I forgot how much I like this bulb.
What do you guys and gals think. No yellow but the 150 was only run for a few days and may not have been broken in yet.
Either way the 250 was very successfull on the 120 so?

They might look "washed out" to some, or for today's standards, but that's very close to the actually color of those species. They look vey similar to that in the wild. Then you can really know what's "radioactive" or "nuclear" to pay that $alty price when you buy them. Can you imagine have to dive with a blue LED flashlight just so you can find what sells??? The real deal is that coral that you look in the ocean and your jaw drops right there. Anyways... "whiter light" equals health. The prices of the corals are so high nowadays because of those ones that have the blue LED's help the purchase. That tank looks healthy and real as is. Those colors are what they are. Cheers! And those Phoenix bulbs are already bluish to me! LOL! Looks great tough!

I wasn't saying the corals look washed out. I was commenting on how the trend has been moved towards tanks washed out in an overabundance of blue light.:beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes:
