Like the title says, I’m looking to get a skimmer for my 20g long quarantine tank. Something cheap preferably. Don’t care if it’s a hang on, or internal. Aesthetics don’t matter a bit either. Years ago I had an old seaclone skimmer on a 29g mixed reef that worked ok. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I wouldn’t worry about skimmer on your quarantine tank it’s not really necessary and a lot of treatments and medications will tell you to turn off skimmer before using it anyway.

I loved my Eshopps Nano. You don’t really need a skimmer on a QT, you should be doing enough water changed that it doesn’t matter. Also, some medications will mess up the performance of a skimmer so it may not run without overflowing most of the time.

Fish QT, or coral QT?

I realize it isn’t a necessity, but I’d like to limit water changes, and a skimmer helps a lot. I don’t medicate fish unless they need it, and if they do the skimmer will be turned off when required.

Fish

A skimmer isnt needed on a fish qt. You would never run the skimmer when you are treating fish.

For your coral QT a skimmer would be good to have.

I do not treat fish prophylactically. Skimmer will be turned off in the event of a fish needing treatment
