Well I decided to take the plunge and upgrade to a 210 gallon (72x24x29). I’m picking up the tank next week. I’m planning to do a reef tank set and I am trying to lay out a game plan for reef safe fish. I would like to stay away from full size angels. I do plan on a yellow tang, a pacific blue, and a blonde Naso. Beyond these fish I am open to suggestions on what else to put in the tank if anyone has any input.

Following along :)
I always suggest this but blennies have so much personality

What equipment r u thinking of running. Budget or extravagant?

The only equipment I have in place so far is my sump. I’ll be using a trigger systems emerald 34. I plan on running Aquatic life hybrid T5 4x39W fixtures with AI prime LEDS. Other than that I haven’t decided on what else to use.

I hope that 29 height doesn’t bother you in the long run.

But as long as you like it.
Welcome to r2r

I thought of that a lot actually, I planned on going with the 180 since it was only 24” tall, but the price difference was only 30 dollars between the 180 and 210 so I figured the extra water volume would be worth it even though maintenance may be a pain.

Welcome! Just getting the rock in there without dropping it will be interesting :) I love that shape though. What kind of rock will you use?

Congrats and be sure to share pics :D I have a tall tank too, be ready for that headache and joy :D I love the water column and how many layers the fish take in the tank, but it does represent challenges with rock placement and cleaning.

Yeah fingers crossed. I think I’m going to use Caribsea liferock. I have used it in the past and really like the color of it without having to wait for coralline to develop it makes the tank look mature from the start and they have some cool shapes available. Only bad thing is the price. I’m shooting for a tank with a lot of swimming room do you think 120 lbs would suffice in a 210 gallon?

Could anyone give me advice on a return pump? I have the aquarium model tank with the mega flows which are rated at 600gph each. I know there is the issue of head pressure but I have not plumbed the tank yet so I’m not sure on this number.

Here is an example of the stats you should be able to find on a pump. It can be different by manufacturer. Go down to the quick compare grid. I'm not recommending this manufacturer or the vendor, just wanted to get a quick example. If you want a quieter pump, you will want to go with DC. If not, you can go with an AC and place a ball valve on the return line to regulate flow, it can be a bit louder.

Are you planning on lining the bottom of the tank with ABS? I've been looking at the same 2 Marineland tanks but want to glue a large ABS panel to the bottom just for rocks being dropped and such.

Well everyone the beast of a tank is home and on the stand. I’ve purchased all my equipment and putting everything together! I am beyond excited.

I would make it higher and use that height to your advantage. Check out the WWC tanks for reference, all 29-30" tall tanks. Looking good though!

I have another 30 or so pounds of rock, I may try to go higher on one side to give it a sloping look. I just want to be sure to leave plenty of swimming room since I’m planning on getting a few larger fish.

Following.
I too have a 210 build but it has been on hold because of overtime at work for the las year. I’m going to start on it again hopefully this weekend.

Added some more height near the middle. Really happy with the way it turned out.
