Looks great!

Looking great, love the stand! What are you planning on keeping?

THANK YOU! The goal was to make the stand super unique and I feel like I definitely hit the nail on the head with everyone’s responses.

so originally I was thinking of a ton of movement so a softie tank but I knew I would end up getting bored quickly. So I think I will be doing an sps tank as I love a challenge. Part of the hobby to me is the tinkering and when you have an sps tank you have a lot to do, referring to all the dosing and always checking on parameters.

I am excited to follow your thread. You are a control freak and I mean that in the most positive way :)
That stand is absolutely amazing and I cant wait to see the rest of the build as well as progress over time

HA! I laughed about the control freak comment. It’s probably true. I have a vision for this tank and definitely want it to surpass what people have seen but I also know I will have difficulty along the way that I’ll be at least at the moment skimmerless and sumpless. But I don’t think I’ve ever liked not tinkering haha.

But honestly thank you! I love the feedback on this build and especially the stand idea!;)

I love your stand! Simple and elegant. I might have to steal the idea sometime in the future!

THANK YOU!!! I don’t mind at all haha I’m sharing so people can see that there is more to tanks stands than what you see all the time.

After I was able to finish getting the surface flat and straight I got the tank back into its designated space (which btw this tank stand is a tank haha)

I was happy that the butcher block sat flat and straight however I decided to just add a few L brackets so that way I knew the butcher block wouldn’t move. Not that I thought it would move with water in the tank.

What better to do Christmas Day morning than drill holes into the floating shelf so you can get the shelf attached to the wall. I ended up buying the brackets from Amazon, I wouldn’t say they’re the best but they definitely do the job and will hold plenty of weight. Over the 50in shelf, I ended up installing three brackets. I could not have been happier with the turn out of the floating shelf.

December 29th 2020 I was thinking the entire time what I was going to put up on top of the shelf and that’s when I realized it would be perfect for the camera equipment. I love the look and even the functionality of how easy it will be to just grab the camera and snap some photos of the tank at any given moment.

So for those who are watching. I decided to go skimmerless because I didn’t want to have a skimmer in the display but I also didn’t want any bulky hob the back filter. That’s why I decided to get the XP sumpless ato, it’s essentially a internal over flow box where it’ll provide surface skimming however it also comes with their ato. Not only do I get something sleek in the display, I get something that will provide the ato, surface skimming, somewhere I can throw a bag of carbon, a temp probe or instead the heater if I can find one that is small.

Do you think that's going to be sufficient filtering? Are you going to add wavemakers?

I think that’s a good question haha. So I will have an mp10 as well but it has been lost in the mail for almost a week now. I’m hoping it’ll show up soon. The rock, the surface skimming, and the mp10 I would call is very bare minimum. Do I think it’ll be enough? It’s tough to say. I typically take things slow and as time goes on with stocking the tank I will see if the water changes will be enough. If not I will add an airstone skimmer and a hob refugium. But as said before aesthetics is important so less is better but if needed, I don’t mind adding additional equipment as long as it is serving the purpose. I also have delt with dinos in the past and when your strip your water, that’s where it comes from and I definitely don’t want that to happen. I still don’t fully understand Dino’s haha

January 6th 2021 I received a package. Super excited about this because it took a little for me to find the lights but thankfully reef2reef is the best forum with the best people and lets you put up wtb threads and and awesome gentleman reached out with exactly what I was looking for
