22 Hour Drive with Tank?

Hello all,

I just got accepted to a coop this spring in Massachusetts, and it will be from January to July. The difficulty is that I would love to take my fish tank with me, but I am currently in Florida. My tank is ten gallons and I have no sump, but lots of coral and livestock. I have moved this tank many times when I go home for breaks during college, so I have five gallon buckets with lids and a cooler for this fish and loose coral, but that drive is only two and a half hours. The drive is 22 hours, has anyone done a trip with their tank of this size, and if so any tips?

As long as you have water movement and heat you should be good. A small powerhead or even an air stone for water movement, and a heater, will both be necessary. Look into battery power or an adapter to connect to your car to run these devices, and you should be right as rain.

Ok those are both manageable, the interesting part will be that I would have to make a stop as I will be driving alone. Should I try and see if someone can drive up with me to make it one or shot or how would I go about it at a hotel?

Get an inverter. Surge protector and a few 25 watt heaters. Air pump with airline and splitter and air stones.

When you get to hotel get a luggage cart and roll it all in. Enjoy the looks you get from people

I used a few of these for transporting fish, rock, corals. But when I got them they were 15$ less and also 70 qt

Put a heater And air stone in each one. Close lid but don’t smush the airline. Seal the gap with duct tape. Bring duct tape with you also

When you get to hotel, unplug surge protector from inverter. Leave inverter on car. roll everything into the room. Plug surge protector into the room outlet. Open lids and you can monitor whenever you like. Next morning reseal with tape and roll back out to car. One power cord to the inverter gets life support online again

Everything will be fine. They ship fish and corals via mail everyday for 24 hour trips.

Maintain heat and oxygen and you will be ok.

Fish might need to be bagged individually. If so, fill cooler half way with water. Heater in bottom. Float fish in bags in their nice 78 degree cooler
