I have been on this forum watching many other build threads and decided it was time to start first build thread. To start I will give a little information about myself and tanks. I am 19 years old and set up my first reef tank when I was 17. I started with a 10 gallon tank that I got at Petco during the $1 per gallon sale. I thought that I had done enough research and took the leap to saltwater from freshwater, but to my demise I didn't know enough about reef tanks. Within 4 months all my live stock (fish and corals) where dead and the entire tank was taken over by red cyano. With some research I found out that a nano tank was more difficult than larger tanks, so I had a 30 gallon sitting in the back room that I turned into my saltwater tank. I was successful with this tank and my corals flourished. I never put a fish in this tank, only corals and inverts. I then was offered a free 125 gallon tank, and of course I said yes, who can turn down a free tank. Once I got the 125 set up everything was going well until I started my first semester of college and didn't spend the time needed to properly maintain this large of a tank. So I tore the 125 down and sold the tank. I knew that I didn't want to get out of the hobby so I moved all my corals and fish into a 75 gallon until I decided what I wanted to do.

This brings us to where I am today. All of my corals are still in the 75 gallon holding tank and are awaiting the move to their new home, a 220 gallon tank.

I purchased the tank Reef Ready and brand new through a wholesaler that I work for on the side.
The tank is 6' long x 2' wide x 30" tall

I found someone selling a custom stand and canopy that would work perfect for my new build.

For a sump I knew that I wanted to do this tank correctly so I contacted synergy reef systems and ordered their new 48" sump that they built for Bulk Reef Supply. Mine was the first that they made in the neon green color.

For a skimmer I went with a Reef Octopus 250-INT because I had great success with RO on my 30 gallon reef.

Lighting will be done by 3 400 watt Metal Halides, 2 96 watt Power Compact Actinic Bulbs, and some sort of led's for moon lighting (haven't purchased the led's yet)

Flow inside the tank will be 2 MP40's, one on each end of the tank and a tunze 6125 mounted on a sea sweep in the middle of the back wall. I will see how this combination works and might add two more MP40's on the back wall if I need more flow.

The tank is currently in the process of cycling and should be ready to go around the begging of
February.

My fish list for this tank has been thought out for a long time and I think that it is finalized.

Fish that I already have:

1 Melanarus Wrasse
1 Leopard Wrasse (Female)
1 Exquisite Wrasse (Vanuatu)
1 Falco Hawkfish

Fish that will be added to the tank:

1 Desijardini Sailfin Tang
1 Blue Tang
1 Achilles Tang
1 Mimic Lemon Peel Tang

Lineatus Wrasse
School of Anthias (Undecided which one)
1 Algae Blenny
1 Tail Spot Blenny
1 Orange Stripe Prawn Goby
1 Yasha White Ray Shrimp Goby (Paired with a Shrimp)

I have always had a fascination with inverts so I will have plenty of these in the tank as well.

1 Blue Linkia Star
1 Red Brittle Star
1 Sand Sifting Star
1 Pink Pincushin Urchin
1 Coral Banded Shrimp
1 Blood Shrimp
3-5 Peppermint Shrimp

Scarlet Crabs
Many different types of snails

I love it!! I have a 220 gallon that I just recently started my 220 cycle as well. What cycling process are you going with?

I dumped in a bottle of bio spira that I had laying around. Plus I put a shrimp in one of the filter socks inside the sump.

Its been a long time since my last post. I've been working on moving my very little amount of coral into the tank from the holding tank along with fish and anemones.
The rock work has changed a little bit because I was dumb and bought a lunar wrasse just to see how he would react to my shrimp and other inverts. Needless to say I don't have any shrimp left and I had to take all the rock out to catch the wrasse. I love having all my equipment and sump in a separate room from the tank because I do not have to keep all the wires nice a neat, due to no one seeing all of it. I have a couple of pictures of the sump and equipment board that I will soon be tidying up all the wire on.

This picture shows the sump and my temporary auto top off resovour to the right of the sump (10 gallon tank), as well as one of my water holding tanks (Blue container on the left).

The power strip on the top left will soon be replaced with a second Neptune Apex EB8
The Bulk Reef supply Dual Reactor will also be replaced soon by two BRS Deluxe models so that I can easily change the GFO and Carbon separately.

I will have pictures of the display tomorrow once the lights come on. So look for another mini update sometime later this week.

The picture of the sump was taken right after I did a water change on the system, and I hadn't put the filter socks back in yet. But normally their are four 4" x 8" filter socks in the first chamber on the left hand side.

Well it has been way way way to long since I updated this thread. The tank is doing pretty good for having been a little neglected theough out the summer months this year. Since the top picture was taken I have replaced the mp40 on the left side of the tank with a new Gyre 250 and have them both being controlled by gyre's new controller.

The stock in the tank is as follows:
1 - Sailfin Tang
1 - Yellow Tang
1 - Achilles Tang
1 - Falco Hawkfish
1 - Melanarus Wrasse
4 - Clownfish
1 - Canary Blenny
1 - Coral Beaty Angel

Looks awesome bro! Me and my wife are planning a 220 build this coming spring! Super excited about it. How are you dosing CA and ALK?

Right now I am just using kalkwasser in my auto top off and then dosing any extra that's needed by hand with BRS 2 part. I am hopefully going to get an apex dose to hook up because the corals are starting to take off and I am struggling to keep up with dosing by hand.

Ah ok, yah I am going to try to be patient and by all the equipment before I even get the tank wet. I'm not a patient person though lol

Haha. Ya I had that problem to. So that's why I'm still adding equipment to it. Such as the doser and probably a calcium reactor eventually.

So Bulk Reef had a good day today. Placed a huge order for a neptune dose, the neptune ddr containers, 5 gallons of brs 2 part calcium and alkalinity, along with a neptune eb8. Hopefully will have all of this hooked up and running by this weekend.

Got my shipment from bulk reef today. I got tomorrow off to set everything up and do some programming on the apex. The Tupperware container has frags in it from WWC.
