I’m not always very good at this stuff... but I would put your skimmer before your fuge.. if you have macro algae, a piece will eventually break off and get stuck in the skimmer. A pain in the neck. Make a Larger overflow area and I prefer it in the center with a return on either side. 220 gallons is a large tank so you’ll have to supersize everything. You’ll need at LEAST four wave makers. You can place two in back and one at each end or just place them all at the ends. A piece of advice... don’t skimp on power heads. If you have to put the tank setup on hold until you save up, then do so. I’ve been through four power heads in less than a year. Now I have to bite the bullet and spend some bucks. Two mp40’s will cost about $700. You will need something in the mp60 size range. I would look at the Tunze pumps. But I’ve spent that $700 already on crappy stuff. Save yourself the heartache. I’m not sure what you have planned for lights... depends on what you want to keep. Corals need more expensive lights. The harder the corals are to keep, the more expensive the lights!

Keep us posted.... I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Sorry, I didn’t see your equipment list. I’m not familiar with your power heads. The Eheim pump is, in my opinion, a great choice. Mine is a work horse.

I’d change the bioballs for liverock rubble if you can make it fit.

Thank you for all of your advice!! When you say powerheads are you interchanging that word with wave maker or do you have wave makers and powerheads?

They are wave makers.... I chose “power heads” because the Eheim doesn’t have variable flow capabilities so it really doesn’t make waves, per se. Still, I’ve had Eheim return pumps that performed well for years. The Eheim pumps lack finesse but the exchange is durability. I really like mine. Besides, they are affordable which means I can have backups!
