Oh it grows fast. Since that pic I gave away a couple gallons locally last month and 2 weeks sold I think 20 cups and just this week sent out 5 more smaller orders from here and eBay of 12-14 cups total and still have plenty in the sump.

I know I just switched from gfo to chaeto and it hasn't been growing as fast as I thought it would i can tell it's growing tho. So was j/w. Is there a rule of thumb or something on how much you should harvest when u do? And u harvest it when. Ur leaves get below where ya want them? Sry for the questions.

I don’t go by any real rules for harvesting amounts although I try not to get below a handful. Probably not satisfying answer but I just kind of go with the flow and don’t really worry about any of it.

I run it 24/7. Algaebarn runs theirs 24/7.
We actually do not run 24/7. We have found there is a lot of value in the "dark" cycle of a grow. We have found this through the many uni and multi cellular species we have worked with. There are a number of metabolic functions that take place when the algae is not undergoing photosynthesis. Our macroalgae lighting usually range between 8 and 14 depending on the situation and the seasons. :)

I do want to point out again that while you might find better growth for a number of reasons with a period without light, the “dark cycle” is not dependent on there being no light. Just so people don’t get more confused on already confusing nomenclature of the pathway.
