Starting the first of the year the wife and I are starting our 240 build. Ive got a few quotes im waiting to receive, but I happened to stumble across these and would like some feedback from the great R2R community!

1st. https://www.saltwateraquarium.com/reefer-3xl-900-black-240-gallon-red-sea/
2nd. https://www.saltwateraquarium.com/96-crystaline-premium-reef-black-242-gallons-planet-aquariums/

Would you guys consider either of these? Can anyone chime in on the build quality of the tanks and cabinets?

P.S. I understand the 3xL is not out yet.

P.S.S I would like to keep the tank AND stand price under 6K so If anyone has any recommendations feel free to drop a link!

I would take a closer look at Planet Aquariums. The stand is shipped pre-built out of Maple plywood. The tank and sump are built in the U.S. not China like Red Sea so you have a good chance at a better response to warranty issues.

Some of the larger Red Sea tanks have been hitting this forum for stand and tank failures already. Red Sea builds their stands out of MDF which is not suitable for aquarium use in my experience. My company built acrylic aquariums and pared them with a local stand manufacturer in the 80's to 2006 and the MDF stands came apart if they got any moisture at all.

Red Sea makes amazing looking tanks, but if it were my money, I would get a longer tank

I would have someone fabricate me a steel-tube stand and look at custom built tanks.

I purchased an acrylic 5’x6’ 500g and a 5’x30” 200g (without stands) from fishtanksdirect in Fla... way less than $6000 for the 2. Very happy with both tanks, have recommended them many times to friends.
Happy to post pics if you’d like to see them.

I have a custom built Planet Aquariums tank and it’s a beast. I wouldn’t hesitate to get get from them again. and add onto it that Red Sea has had all the recent failures with their large tanks it’d steer clear personally.

I will add though that my 210 rimless from them with a stand was half of that price delivered. Main differences is mine is 72” not 96” and mine isn’t starfire glass.

Have you considered where the tank will go and how hard will it be to get it there. That may make the glass vs acrylic question easier.

Planet aquarium tanks are great... but their tideline ghost overflow setups leave something to be desired.
They are the same as the reef savy ones but yes they are all trash.
I got a custom
Modular marine one made for my Planet tank and love it.

I had the option to return the overflow box because you couldn't fit typical pvc 90deg fittings in the box for the drains... but decided to give it a try anyways. Already hating myself for that. I've heard good thing about modular marine and will probably give them a shot soon.

I got my tank and stand from Custom Aquariums.

I have a 60X30X22 tank and a 38" tall stand on order from them. Would love your feedback on your tank from them. Did you get their stand as well? What overflow system did you go with?
