If you are going to seed the tank with the "old" live rock, aren't you afraid that there will be aptasia and stars hitchhiking right back into the new set up?? I have been battling aptasia myself and took out my live rock and soaked it in R/O fresh water for about 4 hours, put it back in a separate tank in new salt water and it appears that it took care of most of it. I have been watching it for any sign of new aptasia growth and throw it back in Fresh Water for a couple hours if I spot any. Not sure if this has killed off all of the good bacteria, but the coralline algea appears to be alive.

I terrified of that. And I didn't explain it all that well. Only a few select corals will be going back in the tank to minimize this. So I'll chop away all the rock I can that's attached to it and dip and inspect before it goes back. I know it's a risk but I'll be very careful and the amount of rock going back in will be very small. I'll prolly and some bio-spira along with the tiny amount of rock.

...I made this 12" tall canopy that will be bolted directly to the wall hovering a foot or so above the tank.

I'm getting ready to make one as well. Got any pics of your build process?

Definitely interested in seeing this canopy put on, I've thought about doing that myself.

Also, I had a major aphasia problem. Matted filefish and a copperband. Month later and all was gone. I agree aphasiaX and all that gimmic stuff doesn't work well.

Here's the canopy. We are going with a minimalist aquascape so I just wanted a straight forward design on the canopy. It was easy to build. It's just a 1"x12" preprimed with a 1"x3" top and bottom and dividers. Then just took a router and buzzed around the insides of each panel.

In this picture I just cut 2, 14" 2x4's just to hold it up there temporarily to figure out how high I wanted it and if we could easily fit in between for maintenance and coral placement. 14" was a little to much so I'll probably wind up going with around 11" or so.

Super tuff. But on the other hand I'm excited for a new aquascape, new look and to put what I've learned since the first time a round to good use.

From the years of scraping algae from the glass the silicone in the front corners had taken quite a beating, so I re-siliconed them and I think it turned out pretty good.
