I recently posted a thread in the DIY section about the 8x2x2 tank I'll be building this summer once I move into my own place. My definite must have fish are a majestic angelfish, australian harlequin tusk, and a pair of mai tai clownfish. There will be softies and possibly a few LPS in the tank, and I know the majestic isn't all that reef safe but I'm going to try and keep him/her well fed and see if I can get away with it.

A few other fish that are must haves would be an eel, at least one tang (would a naso be pushing it too much?), a christmas wrasse, and a vrolik's wrasse along with some cardinals and watchman gobies.

If that's not pushing the bioload too much, I would like to add a sargassum trigger but that seems like pushing it a bit too much. And if it isn't I'd actually prefer another tang, maybe a yellow, hippo, and/or yellow eye kole instead.

Thanks!

I don't think that is pushing the bio load at all. In my 240, I have a Harlequin Tusk, Magnificent Foxface, Blonde Naso, Purple Tang, Desjardinni Tang, Rusty and Lamark Angels, Green Bird Wrasse, Longnose Hawk and I still plan to add a couple Large Angels, a Blue Jaw Trigger and probably a Banana Wrasse. I've been fine up to this point and will see once everyone grows.

Oh my god that's a lot of fish! I have an expensive taste in fish and a low budget so I might take a while to stock this thing, lol. So as of now my list will be the majestic angel, aussie harlequin tusk, pair of mai tai clowns (maroonXocellaris hybrid), naso tang, christmas wrasse, vrolik's wrasse, pyjama cardinals, kole tang, yellow tang, hippo tang, sargassum trigger, and some watchman gobies. After that I want to leave some space open for other cool fish that I come across. Any suggestions for a cool looking fish?

EDIT: Also an eel. Anyone know of cool moray that's not too expensive? Leaning towards a zebra as of now.

That list looks fine. The zebra is a great eel that is considered safe w/tankmates. Skeletor eels are another option.

Wow, I'm surprised it's not too overstocked, especially with the 4 tangs. I might add in a powder brown. Will it have enough swimming room and filtration capacity (I'm going to be running a 5 foot by 8 inch counter current skimmer)? And do they come down with stuff like the powder blues do?

I really want a purple and/or clown but purples are too freaking expensive and clowns seem to bee too aggressive :(

I agree with the others that is not overstocked at all. Oh and you love your Vrolick's wrasse they are so cool. Mine has an almost metallic bronze color on its pattern[emoji3]

You can get purple tangs from nyaquatic for $99

I can't wait to get one! I saw it on Blue Zoo and it's a beautiful wrasse, harlequin tusks and christmas wrasses are the only ones I have seen that are better looking

They are $180 right now. They're $140 I believe at Fresh Marine right now, so I don't know if I will be able to get one or not. I have between a 5 and 6 thousand dollar budget for the tank and I want to buy a lot of corals so I'm going to set up the tank and add the must have fish first and then see what I have left over and if I have enough you bet I'll be getting a purple tang. Clowns are so tempting though, only $40.

Wow well 3to5 aquatics just posted a thread "Red Sea beauties" and is selling 3"-4" purple tangs for $129.99! I would jump on it fast otherwise they will be gone!

Wow I wish I had space for one! My tank's not even built yet :(

Is it a safe idea to keep that variety of tangs together? (kole, naso, yellow, powder brown, hippo). I've heard of the yellows being territorial and the kole and naso being aggressive and intolerant of any other tangs.

Should be fine in that big of a tank
