getting time to switch out bulbs, running an m80 with a 20k radium, been running this set up for quite a while now over my 28 nano, looking at bulbs this morning, and was pondering ushio 22k or geissman 20k, has anyone used either of these, and if so how do they compare to the radium? thanks for any input

I had Ushio and loved them and so did my corals. I can't comment on the comparison to the Radiums though...

Have you looked the megachrome 17.5?

I used to run Ushio.

I run Radiums too for the most part but have also tried the Ushio 20k (on electronic ballast) several years ago. I seem to think it was a bit dimmer and more violet initially but seemed to color shift to more white after about 6 months. I tried a Hamilton 20k recently and seem to like it as a cheaper option to Radiums. That's a huge amount of light for 28g.

i think im going to stick with the radiums, i know better than to change things up, funny when you run without change for years what youll consider

I believe it's an HQI bulb. I don't know exactly how that compares to the M80 but it's supposed to be close at least when running a Radium.

Can you tell us more about your experience with the Megachrome 17.5? I've wanted to try it, but it is an expensive bulb just to try.

I have not used it lol just read some threads on them and they are supposed to last longer, something like 2 years I’ve heard.

I think that @Abhishek uses the Megachrome 17.5k.

Jda is right ! I do and I love it to hell !!! No amount of radions can make me switch . Few examples can be found in my build thread .will attach pics once home .
I run them on m80 ballasts and without supplements . It's crispy white with a tinge of purple . Geissemann claims that it would last 3 years which am not certain though .
Regards,
Abhishek

3 years?? Wow! How long have you ran yours? Do you check it periodically with a pat meter to see if it’s losing it’s spectrum or whatever it is?
