Hello Everyone!

So i was thinking of switching my all in one set up into a sump set. I have the perfect cabinet space for it. My current all in one has a 5g sump in the back. I was thinking of adding a 20ish gallon to the bottom after drilling a quick hole or two. I just really like sumps and building a beautiful fudge so i can end up not really needing to do many water changes. I only have 1 fish in the tank to help pick at any algae.

The main reason I post this is because everything in the tank is consistent levels all ready. I only do about a 2.5 G water change weekly. Should I make the change or is making the change just kinda of a set that is not really needed?

If everything is consistent and you are not having issues, I wouldn't rush into going the sump route. You also have to check if the tank is able to be drilled too. Drilling the tank could shatter the glass (if tempered) or crack it. I'd look into getting a tank that is already drilled to avoid a catastrophe....

Yeah i agree... I have been looking into it more and When the time comes i am just buying a new one.

I would recommend giving it some more thoughts. You are right about adding a sump will reduce your maintenance burden around water changes, but I'll be highly skeptical that it will be completely gone, at least not for first few months. This also comes at a risk of changing your stability, as not only you'll be changing your system volume, but you'll get into triton or some other method which will significantly change how your water chemistry is maintained.
Just the sump itself has lots of benefits, from hiding some equipments to increased water volume, to just the fact there a place for more chaeto. All of it is a good thing, but dont attach a hard expectation that it will make you free form water change, in fact I would argue that you are only on the best/easiest way to manage chemistry, which is small tank and very methodical water change. I am a biocube owner and can tell you that periodic water change and some carbon does wonder at this scale.
You'll need to do quiet a bit of other work in no water change route, including ICP tests, more elaborate dosing etc.

I think its best to think about what next you want to grow, how long you think you want this exact tank etc. And then decide on a more balanced choice, I can see a lot of value just adding sump,, slowly.. and then change one thing at a time every month as and when you deem necessary, but all of that is a plan to support your next vision around this tank.. like you want to grow some harder to keep acro (e.g. red dragon), or make the colors pop, or grow certain corals faster .. etc

@Ranjib Thank you! I agree! I am not adding a sump, I did however make changes to my current all in one set up. I added baskets One is Bio Tech bag, The other two separated i added a mixer in that has a slow flow with as much chato as I cold put in there with enough flow attached to my POD breeder. By doing this the Pods mass produce in the Jug, Established for about 4 months now will flow into the Chato bin then going into the return area.

I didnt mean to do this to get rid of water changes. I love doing water changes it makes an excuse to be able to go in and buy corals.
