Hey all, so my 28g cube has been running for about a month and it’s going great. Avoided most of the uglies phase, by setting up my fuge right before cycling ended ( a tip I found here) and I’m looking for my next fish. So far there is 2 ocellaris and a purple firefish. I also have a few LPS and 5 trochus snails in there.
For my next fish I want a yellow watchman and pistol shrimp pair. I’ve heard they’re reckless but I love seeing those symbiotic relationship so I’m willing to deal with it.
In the future i really want a flame angel. My only problem is I’ve heard very mixed reviews on keeping an angel in a 30~ gallon so I wanted some advice on that. Is a flame angel a good idea and would they enjoy the tank?? Also, other than the reckless behavior of the pistol/goby is there anything major I should be worried about before getting them? Lastly how does this livestock list sound? and if you think I should go a different route please share some other fish that you’re a big fan of! Thanks in advance

A flame angel is, IMO, too big for a 28g, they’re also notorious coral eaters. The YWG/shrimp pair should be fine. I would also recommend beefing up your CuC, I would do 2-3x more snails and 8-12 hermits.

That’s what I was afraid of. Figured the flame might get bored and start nipping or feel to constrained. Do you have any recommendations for a showcase fish for a 28g?

I had a flame angel in a 40 gallon for about 6 months with no problems. I personally had no problems with nipping. I may have been on the lucky side, but I thought I'd share my experience. I'd say it is a risk when it comes to flames and corals. As for feeling constrained you can always buy a baby angel and rehome when larger if it is a fish you really enjoy.

Flame angel too big :) get the goby and shrimp pair makr sure you have a lid cuz gobies and firefish are known to jump. My goby shrimp pair rearranged my entire 10g and put sand everywhere, but they are cool.
