I have a used cube that has a hang on back filter that pushes 300 gallon an hour, a small power head that will do up to 500 gph. No skinner or sump. Still need to upgrade the lighting but have the stock LEDs that came with the tank new. I will start the cycle this weekend and hope to try some easy corals like mushrooms or the like. Like to put a couple feather dusters in as well but it is a bare bottom tank so not sure how they will do. Interested in suggestions for light and possibly skimmer . I would prefer a light that can be supported by an arm attached to the back of the tank. Also, have charcoal and ceramic pieces in the filter with a sponge but wonder if I can do better. Thank you for any comments and or suggestions.

Are you looking to use LED/t5/halide? I can make suggestions for them all using past experience.

Probably looking for LED but if t5 is best I would consider those. This tank is a primer for the 120 build I have coming up. That tank will start out with t5's for lighting. If I can light the 28 with led and have some success with easy corals then that would be my choice. Thank you for your responses.

Honestly, any kind of lighting has success with easy coral and moderately to difficult too for that matter. For myself, its either straight led or a halide/t5 combo. It depends on the way you want light to look in the water. With halide it's a more natural look than led and with t5 you can get actinics to make things pop like leds. It just comes down to your preference really at this point. Leds have all that cool programming to mess around with too. Let us know what you decide to go with c:

Heat can be a issue with the 28 gal, especially if this is a JBJ with a lid. Your best bet is a Prime or Kessil, you'll also get the shimmer you do not get with solely T5HO.
Any modern type fixture be it hybrid MH, LED or T5 will get the job done.

Thanks guys. No lid on the tank. Still doing my research but really wanting to go led right now.

So I am really looking at the SB LEDs. Anybody using them that could comment?
Thanks, Jim
