Hi All -

I recently purchased a bio-cube. This is my first saltwater tank. When I purchased the tank, I got live rock that had been sitting for about a month or so out of the tank. I put the rock in the tank and added one piece of live rock that I purchased from the aquarium store. I also added a bag of live sand.

I cycled my tank for about three weeks. I took a sample of my water to my local aquarium store and they said my nitrates and ammonia were high so they told me add a bottle of fritz-syme turbo start to my tank

It has been a week and I just did a test. My ammonia was at 1.0ppm and nitrite 0 and nitrate 0.

Is this normal? Should I be doing anything else or just continue to let the tank cycle? I have not done any water changes.

Thanks in advance for the help!

It usually will take a little bit longer than 3 weeks for a tank to cycle. I wouldn't worry about the ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate tests because they are usually inaccurate or hard to read. I would ghost feed (add food with no fish) for 3 more weeks, do a small water change, and then add a hardy fish like a clownfish. Best of luck with the new tank!
