So I got a new used bio cube for a qt tank. Looking for ideas on what is essential for set up. I'm also thinking about letting my son make me a cool Lego city aqua scape! Anyone tried Legos in there tanks? I could use some sort of base I can hold down with magnets? Uh. Idk just throwing out random thoughts here! Who's done led upgrades to a 29 bio cube? Show me your cube give me ideas.

This Lego idea has me excited. Pls let me know if anyone thinks this is terrible. Can I use magnets in the tank? Legos shouldn't have anything that will leach in the water should they? I can superglue stuff to make sure it all holds...... star wars themed quarantine / hospital tank ftw!

I would suggest a simply filter, power head and pump to push water around to begin with.

If you are going to use magnets, I would suggest getting sealed magnets of course. Most QT tanks are bare and nothing in them or a minimum of live rock for another filter. Problem is if there is a parasite or something, it could attach to the LR and then onto anything you put in the QT afterwards.

Yah this is why I'm thinking removable Lego stuff. I can pull it and bleach or whatever the stuff weekly. And my boys will be part of building anything they want in there!

Anyone have experience with switching this thing over to full led. Probably the only mod I wanna do and kinda wanna stay with the hood. Idk maybe I could diy a cover for the back to hide the sump. And go with a pendant light. Advice would be great bio cube guys!

Heres my 29 bio cube.... fairly new... only about a 2 months in... i dont have any legos but I have a few frags! :) im looking forward to seeing pictures of the legos if you go through with it and if its successful... as for the lights... im looking to upgrade mine to a retrofit set up here in a few months... I think one of my favorites so far is.... Coralife Biocube 29 Aurora Puck Dimmable Retrofit Kit - Rapid LED

Nice bat cave action! That will b great. Yah that led kit is probably awesome. But Idk about that much $$ on a qt tank for me.

i understand, it is rather pricey no doubt about that. what other options are you looking at that are less in price?? I might be interested as well!

I seen another one for 200 that has analog dimming. Which means my reef angel controller could run the lights. I've seen alot of decent led lights for like 100 bucks Idk if I could make them work in the hood though.

That's where I'm thinking the hood would have to go. Might be able to modify Idk. I'm just thinking bulb replacements are 50 bucks. So it will pay for itself.

I know my brother-in-law cut a hole in his hood and put an after market LED light from China in there. Cost him about $100 for the unit and lit it up nicely. I will have to get the name and find out where he bought them but it ended up being pretty nice for what he paid for it. As far as the hole, it could of been a little prettier but it was also a quick fix to the lights that were in there.

So I ended up with a reef radiance dm 155e light and just cut a hole in the top. Put some clear acrylic in to set the light on and ran the wires into the hood. Looks pretty good and is more light than I'll ever need!
