As most of you know I have a bio cube that I was having a really hard time with for a long time. Well since I have started using RO water and doing water changed more often now I'm starting to see my corals grow slowly. My only challenge I'm having right now is trying to figure out how often to change out the air stone for my bio cube protein skimmer.

I had that skimmer in chamber 1, but I upgraded to an AquaticLife 115. Comes with its own water pump and also fits in chamber 1. Around $60. I don't know how often you have to change the wooden airstone. I still have mine running on a 10gal QT tank and still bubbling pretty good after 2 years

Thanks for the info. Which one would fit in the back of my bio cube? The 115?

nice looking setup I remember from a year ago

did peroxide help clean up that bad boy

if I remember correctly we did a mass cleaning, deep cleaning on your setup?

Brandon429 good to talk to you again buddy. We did do a mass cleaning on my setup and I also went ahead and did a few adjustments of my own.

ha! that's reef rock n roll it looks 100% clean that's for sure nicely done.

the po po are coming

you will be placed in digital handcuffs for your stockings.

:)

Thank you. It took quite a bit of work to get it to look so clean. Now as for my stocking of my aquarium. Everything I have in there gets along with each other just fine. I'm sure I'm not the only one who stocks there aquarium a bit on the heavy side.

ha lol! then we've headed the po off at the pass. regarding stocking levels, as opined by someone who has a tank so packed corals are smashed up against the glass all flattened, all I care about is:
1. is there any free ammonia the system can't process (no)
2. is there any ugly algae at all (no)
3. no ich
4. well fed

=rock n roll all else is opinion.

Nport would you mind if I used your before and after pics I have two new threads that would benefit in seeing... one here, one at nano-reef.com

throngs of posters in problem tank threads need to see what simple forced tank compliance yields, your tank is that. I recall the initial pics for sure and what we discovered regarding the tank history.

You took some algae, willed it out, put a sustain in place, and just demonstrated to many in contemplation how to not have to start over with new rocks. If you don't want to post here zip it to me in pm if poss!

The AquaticLife 115 will fit in any chamber but for proper height (water level around the neck) chamber one is always constant level. It comes with suction cups too but the unit will slide down into the chamber and overflow. I made an egg crate platform to support it from below, worked out well. Another thing is that if you have the factory biocube hood, the small access door in the back can't be closed the collection cup sticks outside[emoji19]

The amount of OP time you will get from lime wood air stones like the one used in the Biocube skimmer will vary greatly, they may still bubble but not produce the "micro" bubbles needed for proper skimming.. I clean mine with a stiff brush under running water to extend the life but I still replace them a few times a year as they are cheap and it's easy to do.

I wouldn't mind if you did that at all. Just leave the my name out of the before picture if you would please.

Thanks for the info. I'm thinking I could get that skimmer to work out in the back of my setup. I don't really use the hood anymore because I have a new set of led lights on my tank setup.
