Hello
Im fairly new to reefing with my first tank being a fail. With a ton of research my daughter Leah and I are giving it round two. We went with the bio cube 29 nano. I know with it being a smaller tank testing and maintenance are key. We are going to sump the tank down the road. Till we sump we went with tunze 9001 skimmer and intank media basket in chamber two. Here’s my question has anyone ever put chato or refugium in chamber number one? I know the copepods would have a hard time getting into to the tank. But I still think it would be a benefit. I just wanted to know if anyone has successfully made it happen and some thoughts. Thank you

Welcome to R2R and great to have you here!!:)

Good question, and I am sure you will get your answer.

Welcome to R2R!
I do believe I've seen threads where users have used the chambers in the back of the biocubes as refugiums :)

Welcome. I have a biocube and put my refugium in chamber two next to my intank media basket. Intank also makes a refugium basket that sits right next to media basket. I had mine up for a little bit but took it down due to excessive algae growth . Chamber one I put my heater. Chamber three I put my auto top off. Works perfect and I don’t have to worry about fluctuations anymore.

Welcome to R2R! The 29 Biocube I had years ago had the black vinal on the back. I'm not sure if they changed that over the years or not. If it does you can trim the vinal on the outside of the tank and set up chamber two for your cheato. Can we see some pics? Is this a newer one or is it running bulbs?

Hello and thank you for your response. I was looking at the intank basket. Problem is I bought the tunze skimmer and it wouldn’t fit in chamber one. I had to place it next to my media basket in chamber two. I like the way you have your setup. But I would hate not to use the 100$ skimmer. Might have been bad space management on my part. Thank you again

I don't know how you would provide light to the first chamber since the back is opaque.

I am trying to get mine to work where you have your skimmer (since the clear glass in chamber 2 allows light penetration - but I keep bleaching my Chaeto. I had the light in velcro on the back of the tank, but have since moved it off the tank about 4 inches to see if the distance helps.

I have the coral life bio cube. My 1st camber has just a piece of black vinyl on the glass. I was think about cutting a square out and putting a light on the back. The intank basket will fit in chamber one. That’s why I was think about giving it a go. I just didn’t know if the flow of the intake would get messed up and if copepods would be able to release out of the intake. I don’t think they would make Through the media basket and skimmer. Before spending the money I thought I get the thought of people with way more experience! Trust me much appreciated. Oh and my tank is still cycling. I’m taking my time to ensure a good set up. I just ordered an AI prime hd light and tunze ato today. I’m sure you guys know not cheap
