Hey all,

I have inherited a 29 BioCube from an old client back when I used to do aquarium maintenance and setup. I have been out of the game for about 3 years now and extremely excited to be back. I have cycled the tank over the past 2 months and successfully housing two clowns, a royal gramma, red crab porcelain crab, blue legs, astreas and some star polyp. Currently running live rock in the filtration chamber with chemipure elite.

As you all may know it is next to impossible to find retrofit lighting and other upgrades for these tanks now. Looking for some input.

I am looking to do some upgrades. They are prioritized below:

  1. lighting (installed a rapidLED retro kit on a 14 bio a while back but now they do not do these kits :/)
  2. filtration
  3. water circulation
  4. ATO
I am open to all and any responses.

CHEERS!

Are you on budget? or any other considerations, let us know those details then we can provide specific inputs. Here is my suggestion:
- Light: Kessil A360 or AI prime
- Filtration: Intank media basket, with chemipure blue in second chamber, filter floss in first. AquaMaxx HOB 1.5 or tunze doc skimmer
- Smart ATO micro
- Stock pump is good. You can use a Maxijet or Rio or even Sicce to upgrade it or have a backup. Use a single mp10 or couple of hydor power heads for more flow

This , couple with decent husbandry (weekly 10% water change and less food, less bioload) should be enough to grow even harder sps like red dragon.

Ideally I want to keep the lid given I have 2 boys 6 and 10 ( things can get a little crazy around here lol)

No real budget but keeping it lean for now.

Have you had any experience with the AquaticLife 115. I know it may be cheap but from the reviews it seems like it carries alot of value.

I use aquatic life 115 skimmer in my biocube 29, its ok. Not bad, not awesome. I'll suggest doing the airline mod. I do think you are better off removing the lid. Fitting equipment (light, media cab, skimmer) will be easier. Heating was also an issue for me, which was solved by getting rid of the hood.

You might want to check out Steve's LEDs since you are looking to keep the lid.

I have heard of people using the 32 kid on the 29. The tanks are said to be just a few inches taller but side to side and front to back is said to be the same and that why they say you can use a 32 top. Look into that if you are ok with that and going to have softies or lps coral you'll be good.
