29 gallon biocube

It all depends on filtration and what it can handle. I had 6 smaller fish and did fine. Largest were 2 clowns and a coral beauty

That was with the standard filtration that the cube uses and a Coralife mini protein skimmer

IMO 6 fish in a 29g is a bit much. Many things need to be factored in. Most importantly the fishes needs and personality/behavior. Also your filtration system.
Some are constantly moving, some perch while others are cave/bottom dwellers. Many are territorial and will fight to the death protecting their space.
Make a list of desired fish. Research whatever fish you choose. Checking on compatibility.

I can be but like you said territory is important. For instance my 6 were

Mated clown pair
Coral beauty
6 line wrasse
Diamond goby
And a very small hippo tang (don't wana hear it tank police) the tank was good for his size.

They all got along and had different swim patterns and habitats

It can certainly vary based on a number of factors. Having a desired stocklist will help determine the specifics.

No police here just WuTang!!!

I had a 29gal that was up for 7 years and very successful. I mainly stocked it with small blennies and gobies:

Randells Goby and a Pistol Shrimp
Several Barnacle Blennies
Cleaner Wrasse
Tailspot Blenny
Target Mandrin
Catalina Goby
Peppermint Shrimp
Several Clown Gobies

I stocked my fuge with live rock rubble and cheato kept alive with a small coralife light. My sandbed was about an inch deep and full of worms of all kinds. The tank also supported a dense population of soft corals, mushrooms, polyps, zoas as well as several grogorians.

Take out the wrasse and that is pretty much my dream tank.

I currently have: 1-percula clown, 1-dwarf coral beauty, 1-purple firefish, 1-pajama cardinal, 1-serpent sea star, 2-red sea star, various snails, and various soft coral. I run an aquatic life 115 internal mini protein skimmer & do partial water changes every 1 1/2 - 2 weeks. Everything is doing great! Also had a blue damsel prior to the firefish, but the damsel had to go...stiring up too much sand and ticking off the clown & coral beauty.

Almost the same as my set up. I have cheato and Dragons Tongue with live rock in chamber two ,heater in chamber one and a bag of Chemi Pure Elite in chamber 3 with a Colbalt MJ 1200 for the return pump.

The fish I have in this tank are considered mean but they have worked out well for over 3 months.
1 Splended Dotty Back
1 Midnight Black Clown
1 Juvi Mystery Wrasse
