Day 1! The hang on filter is just to clear up the water

Equipment is as follows:

250 watt MH with 14k bulb

2x hydor nano 425
1x hydor 600
Octopus Bh-1000 skimmer

im using a 5 starge ro/do for some good clean water!

This is will a full blown reef tank!

Im using RC salt

Thanks! This has to be at least tank number 9 or 10 ive started from bottom up! I love starting new tanks but this one is going to be a show piece, didnt spare any expense! Cant wait to look back at this next year! and feel free to PM me or ask anything i love sharing what i know!! its the best part about this hobby!


Jakemac, what part of new york are you in? i currently live in penfield, me and the girl just bought a house out here!

To get the most out of your DI you should attach the cartridge so it is vertical with the water exiting the top. With it horizontal the water will often just touch the bottom DI and not get as good of a 'wash' as it could if you force it up through the filter.

I would suggest a hob overflow and a sump before you get too carried away

I'm not gonna do it for this one, this is like my 10th tank so I know it's prolly better just gonna go with hob skimmer and remove the filter

looking good. i love watching 29s built. ive had a 29 for 5 years now, its been a reef for about 9 months. just diy'd a 15 long sump and stand for mine with a reef octopus nwb 110 skimmer.
