29 gallon Reef Recked build

That was my fault for not reading the description of the overflow properly, I just assumed it would have bulkheads. I actually did order a set of low profile bulkheads, just waiting for them to arrive.
Looking forward to the pics :)

Hey Buddy It happens to the best of us! here are some extra pictures on how i setup my Overflow hope this helps! let me know if you have any questions IMG_1016.jpg IMG_1017.jpg IMG_1034.jpg IMG_1037.jpg

That sump is looking good. Nice job!
Thank you Diamond! This was one of my biggest worries about this build and it came out much better than expected, I got some more acrylic that i plan on painting and adding to the front to clean up the look a little more!

Ill post what i was able to get done the last week hopefully later today just have to format a bunch of pictures!

So last week got the whole system plumbed and running for the water test and of course i had one small leak coming from the bulkhead between my overflow box and the outside of the tank, after trying to tighten and loosen them and get one to work then the other bulkhead would eventually leak it created bubbles in my plasti dip. So I had to pull it all apart and repaint it, to put it all back together and still have a leak!!:mad::mad:. I ended up using some aquarium sealant on them and even then still had a leak so had to strip it all off and try again! But as of yesterday so far no leaks!!! hoping she holds up! ;Nailbiting

by the way you guys weren't kidding about the Bean animal being silent! i knew it would be quiet but you can barely hear anything! which was one of my main goals considering this tank will be in my bedroom I didnt want it to be too loud. Also was very easy to Set up and also tested to make sure my Emergency drain works and is water tight!:)

Getting the front and side access doors cut, stained, and trimmed as well as getting my electrical cabinet set up, I ended up using some extra acrylic I had to separate it from the sump to keep the electronics a little more safe from any splashes plus thought it would look better than plywood I plan on building a Reef-Pi at some point as well!

after staining the wood this chalky, felt feeling white stuff seemed to start coming from the wood, anyone have any idea what this is? I tried to polish it and it had no affect so guessing im going to have to sand down and restain. hoping that gets rid of it. Ive never seen anything like it before and it only happened to my front piece (of course).

Looking good.
You wont regret building a reef-pi. I built one and love it.
I built enough stuff into it to run 2 tanks with ATO, Temp Control, lighting control, dosing pumps and 16 controllable outlets. I will be adding a ph probe in the near future. All that for less than the price of a base model apex.

My 29g and 14g cube tanks hooked up to reef-pi. (Don't mind the sandstorm I had just moved the little one)

Wow that is a great Setup! did you build those stands yourself as well? Im jealous yeah im thinking that the Reef-Pi is the way to go, gives me something to do for the next month or so while my rock cycles :). My soldering skills aren't the best but should be good enough to get the job done lol.

What Outlets did you use for yours?

I plan on eventually setting it up for a good number of controllable outlets, Temp, PH, Lighting, ATO etc ;Joyful;Joyful

and wow You have some great threads Diamond Im gonna have to set some time aside to give them a read!

Yes I built the stand for the 29g. The other was just an old end table that matched.
The outlets are just bigbox store stuff. Regular wall outlets with the tabs broken on the hot side.

Word advice if you don't have an adjustable temp solder station get one, it will make life a lot easier.

Thats awsome I could learn a thing or two from your work, it looks great.

I do have an adjustable temp solder station but I think im going to end up getting a nicer one, mine doesn't seem to stay to temp or the temp isnt accurate. even when not used for 10-20 seconds or longer the tip takes way too long to heat the solder, which ends up making it a little harder to work with.

Thank you! its getting there. Hahaha me and my father restore and modify on the side mainly for fun, im more use to metal and motors which is why the wood and water is taking me what feels like forever to get done! they are my babies until I finally get some fish in this tank. I actually didnt even realize how much they were in the pictures lol you kind of get use to them!

Major Step! finally got it wrapped up enough to move into its temporary final home! Still have a few things left to wrap up but can do that while my rock cycles its been curing for 2 months while i finished everything else.

This is also what im thinking for rockscape I found out that i am horrible at this lol but took a long time and i think this is the best i could come up with. Let me know if anyone sees any issues im going to have with flow etc.

Was starting to feel like this day would never come

And what im thinking for my aquascape ! plan on starting the cycle this weekend! :D:D;Nailbiting

P.S excuse the old shirts! just wanted some extra security in case any fell!

Thank you Diamond, Im sure your right lol so I went ahead and took that top piece of rock off!

Started work on my ATO container as well as the top of an adjustable stand im making for my BH50 skimmer, Also got some LEDS installed for inside the tank that are color changing to make it not only easier to work on anything in there but also look awesome when controlled by Alexa :D.

Also finally got some Pink Fiji sand in there and started filling with RODI (after another frog got into my mixed saltwater and i had to toss it out)
wasnt able to finish filling the tank and sump yesterday but should have it wrapped up by tonight.

I love that little skimmer stand and the lights!

If your still undecided about lights you might want to look at a Vipraspectra 165w LED.

They are pretty inexpensive and seem to put out some nice par numbers. Plus if you do build a reef-pi controller they are easy to hack into for dawn to dusk control.
Here's a link to a thread that is dedicated to testing some different black boxes that seems pretty legit and unbiased they just tested the Vipraspectra light and it looks good.

Thank you! im still going to make an adjustable base for the stand to adjust skimmer height if needed. I had extra Acrylic so figured why not lol. The lights are awesome but couldnt get as many in there as I wanted it was pretty hard to work with the LEDs under there.

I was actually just going to get an SB today! but that looks like a pretty good deal so im going to have to read up on it! followed! but Still going through that thread, have they tested an SB yet? curious how they stack up. I am going to build a Reef pi at somepoint but until then i like how the SB is wifi controllable however really like the price on the Vipar.

Do you have any idea on how the SB is to setup with the Reefpi?

I'm pretty sure that any of the black box led fixtures can be converted to run with reef-pi. It's just a matter of matching the led drivers to the right pwm signal. Either 0-10v pwm or 3.3v pwm. I know for sure that the viparspectra works on 3.3v pwm, the same as my OR T247 does. I'll look into the SB lights but it shouldn't be to hard to figure out.
