29 Gallon Saltwater stock ideas

Hi so I’m new to saltwater tanks and have just set one up. I have about 4 years experience with freshwater so I’m already familiar with cycling and everything else. I did research the differences between saltwater and freshwater tank set ups though. I have a 29 gallon tank (I think it’s about 30 x 12 x 18) it’s the standard one. I just set it up with ocean direct live sand, I’m using dry rock that I got off Amazon which looks really nice. I purchased an rodi System, and am using instant ocean salt. I have a 50 and 30 aqua clear filter, a heater, and wave maker. And I’m using dr Tim’s ammonia and nitrifying bacteria to jumpstart the cycle. The tank is going to be a FOWLR tank. It’s cycling atm. Now that I’ve covered all of that, I want to know some stock ideas for it. I know I want at least 2 ocellaris clownfish. I’ve already researched them. What are some other suggestions you all may have in addition to those two?

I looked up these, I love the yellow tail damsels and royal grams. Do y’all think I could maybe have 2 ocellaris clownfish, 1 yellow tail damsel, and 1 royal gram? And maybe I few shrimp? Or is that pushing it for a 29 gallon? I will be doing water changes once a week. I’ll post pics once the water clears

Others ideas above should be good, I would be cautious of the damsel though, they are known to become bullies, maybe some cardinals or a blenny instead?

I think you can do those four. We all have had cloudy tanks whe we first started

Hi! So we have about the same exact setup and I have had my tank for a couple of months. I have four fish, two ocellaris clowns, a royal gramma and a yellow tail damsel. The latter has taken a couple of tries. They tend to be bullies so get the smallest of the bunch and make sure it is the last fish you put in the tank.

Also there seems to be either salt or dust from the sand stuck on the glass, will that come off eventually?

Use a Turkey baster and blow it off the glass. If you try to wipe it off, you may end up scratching the tank.

Just an update on my tank. It's still cycling with seachem stability and seachem pristine. I initially used Dr Tims nitrifying bacteria on the first day to give it a jump start. My ammonia levels are slowly going down after being at 4 ppm, now its at about 1.0 ppm. The nitrite was at 5.0, then I did 30% a water change so now it's at about 1.0. The nitrates are still at 0. I'm doing a fishless cycle. I know I will probably be adding a buffer and equilibrium to raise gh, kh, and ph levels. This tank is mostly intended for clownfish and species with similar water parameters. Anyways I've had this new problem of brown algae. I know that it's caused my high phosphates usually but could there be any other causes? I haven't tested for phosphates in the water and again, the tank is still cycling.
