29g Nano cube steal deal

So yesterday I got a sick deal on a cube. Got a nano cube, stand, skimmer, power head, LR and bunch of chemicals. Got it home last night

Plugged it up and turned the lights on to show the girl friend. Today we went and got some vinegar to clean it with and then went to the LFS and got my filter media. Going to be using puregen and then also matrix. Going to throw some filter floss in there also. Might change it up eventually but for now that works for me. I also have some rocks cooking in a cooler to clean them. Got home and filled it up with water and vinegar and am letting it run water through the pumps and everything to get it all cleanes out. Might drain tonight and start cleaning it.

I'm going to have to do some checking around but do want to upgrade the lights to leds asap but for now that's the only upgrades I wanna do. Check back soon to see more updates.

Looks a like my 29 jbj, but the screws that held the protecter on the metal halide all rusted out. I upgrared to and LED system as well. Good move!

Well the tank is as clean as it will get lol. Only one major spill of water and a small one from the assistant.... aka my gf it was a success. Have all the pumps in place, skimmer and heater in place. All I have to do now is get my live sand and jugs upon jugs of water lol.

So yesterday got the water and sand in the tank. Waiting for the temp and the water to clear up and will be transfering my stuff from tank to tank.

Looks like it was just the right size for the space too!

Did you start with new sand and all new water or did you take some of the water from another tank to help it get started? If it is all fresh I would recommend putting a rock or two in there and make sure it doesn't cycle before moving the livestock over. I made the mistake of new saltwater and new sand in a tank move and ended up killing 3/4 or more of my nice large SPS colonies. I was devastated but learned from it and will never do that again.

I started with all new sand and used seeded ocean water and new water. Should I take the rock out of my tank and leave the fish homeless or transfer everything all at once?? Never done a transfer before.

if you started with new sand you risk it cycling and killing everything...leave rock in there and new water can also cycle it you shouldve used water from your old tank it would cycle within a few days...i wouldnt put fish in yet but thats your call goodluck!

When i did this tank I used Live sand with bacteria and also 5 gallons of seeded ocean water. I was going to take out some of the water and replace with my water and then the rock and then the fish and leave the corals over in the other tank for a bit. Then going to leave the snails and crabs in the old tank also. It should trick the tank into thinking its just a severe water change.

Well I took water out added part of the old tank to the new one. Got the rocks out and then transferred the fish. The corals are still in the other tank and am going to wait till tonight to transfer them out. All the other fish are swimming around, even my yellow clown Goby is actually swimming also. He never comes out. Gonna wait till tomorrow and take a FTS, still a little cloudy.

Well while i was doing all this, I ended up buying randomly my LED replacement kit. So should have that soon!

So everything has settled now. The fish, coral, rocks and snails. Everything looks good and the yellow clown goby is still swimming.

Tank is doing great, it is cycling to. I came home and the snails were all over the glass.... lol. Even with the lights off they are still all over. Its some times hard to see an algae. I should have my led lights here Monday I have actually stopped myself from buying TONS and I MEAN TONS of coral till I get my new lights. Been rinsing the rocks, Have to get a chisel or something similar so i can break them up. Will get some pics up soon. Also taking a cruise in a couple weeks and will be going out of West Palm Beach, FL and Im wondering any good shops from Birmingham, AL to there????

So the lights arrived today. Let me first off say that it took forever. Wish i would have replaced my reflector would been easier, **** rivets made it take forever. The kit was pretty straight forward except the dimmer and fans. Confused how to wire up the prongs and also the placement. Then never said how to wire fans just placement but just reused the plug from the moon leds that was broke and now fans are good. Here are some pics.

Using your old water won't help anything. Just stick with new water. If you want to speed it up use some live rock. Old water carries very little to no beneficial bacteria.
