Finally caught the 2nd mantis in my tank. Is this a N. wennerae?

I think it's going to the toilet. My LFS has no interest in them. I sorta despise them now cause they were such a pain trying to catch.
That’s where mine went.
Viscous thing, beat the crap out of two fish before caught. 5” easy.
And the tank was all dry rock.

I'm going to wait another week before putting the fishes into the tank just in case there was a 3rd one I missed. I still hear consecutive clicking sounds but not sure if that is the baby pistol shrimp in the tank.

Great idea.
That shrimp was systematically stalking my fish one by one. Would have ultimately killed everyone.

Just by chance, I seen him for a few seconds.

By bye

If you've got a club, list it as free on there. It not and you're willing to ship, let people know. Those looking for a mantis sometimes have a tough time sourcing them, so it's common to find takers. I had three small ones in the batch of live rock that started my current tank, got all three rehomed with one shipped for just the cost of shipping.

dang, I did not know they went after fish. Definitely going to try a trap again for my 2nd one.
Surprised me.
Like Jack the Ripper.
Beat the daylights out of a full size royal gramma and orchid dittyback.
Gets the rock dwellers first.

I’m still in for one, if you want to try to ship a little spud for me! I’m in New York, east of Rochester. I don’t know where you are, but he wouldn’t have to travel far.

Otherwise as mentioned, please try to find a home for them. They are terrors in a typical aquarium, but a Mantis has to Mantis, and can’t be blamed for their ill manners. But they are intelligent and cool on their own in a species tank.

my LFS wants it, if I ever catch it.

D'oh! Honestly I thought I was replying to a different thread about Matids in the tank after buying live rock. That poster was much closer to me. But very glad to hear your LFS will take them in, I'm sure someone in your area would want to keep one in a species tank; very cool critters, in my opinion.

Good luck!

It died in the cup yesterday.

I'm sorry to hear that. I would have tried to take it in and paid you to try to ship him, but I get that you may not have been inclined to do that. I also understand that there's no place for these animals in a typical aquarium, and I saw your frustration with trying to trap it.

But best of luck with your tank otherwise! Now that you got the bad hitchhikers out of the tank, you are going to love that rock and the good critters it comes with!

Best of luck!
