3/4” pipe for return pump noisy

Hi all.

I’ve got 2 x M2 Vectra return pumps and in finding them quite noisy.

I have maybe 2M of head pressure from the sump to the tank and I can only get 2400L/Hr flow (measured with GHL flow monitors).

Should I upgrade this pipe to 1” pipe?

The flow sensors are 3/4”. Is there any point?

The flow meter will be an obstacle but 1" pipe will give lower friction. Look at your elbows also - if it is normal 90 degree elbows - change the into "long elbows" or use two 45 degrees elbows instead for every turn.

Best noise reduction is - IMO - is to have an silicone tube between the pump and the pipe

I'll try that.

Failing that, you think if I upscale to an L2 vectra, that will move more water at a lower speed, therefore quieter?
 
I'm curious as to where the noise is?
Is it coming from the pump? Is the pump/pumps touching the sump wall?
Water splashing in the tank?
Maybe there is cavatating going on where the 3/4" flow sensor reduces the flow, then after the sensor when it goes back to 1"?
 
I’m going to try a anti vibration silicon pipe, but I don’t think it’s a vibrating noise. I think it’s simply the pump humming. Like an electrical noise. I think it’s the pressure cussing resistance.
 
Noisy Vectras aren't very common.
You can try the silicone section on the pumps.
Maybe remove the flow meters? That should give you a increase in flow.
 
When I say noisy, I don’t mean anything more than a loud fridge.

Like a low droning hum, but it’s next to the dining table.

I will try a silicone pipe and then maybe increase the pipe size. I have 3/4” pipes and I’m struggling to get 10x turnover recommended for Triton method.

I am getting lots of detritus in the water column which is obviously a side effect of this flow.

My apologies, for some reason I saw 1" and thought that was what you were using with the 3/4" flow sensor.
Going to 1" will improve the flow. I'd skip the flow sensor.
Sometimes a bare walled stand can seem to magnify any noise. I have one stand that I lined ( doors and end walls) with a sound board. Really helped my issue.
 
A filter mat between the bottom of the sump and the pump is another trick - but i think that the silicon tube will fix the most of it.
