Good afternoon guys,

I'm in the market for a new tank preferably rimless between 80 to 100 gallons. I found a 80g rimless tank 48x24x16 with a stand for $800 at a LFS. I believe the brand is VISIO. The tank looks great but my only issue is the thickness of the glass it being 3/8. Do you guys think that would be a problem in the future? as I don't plan on upgrading that tank for many years to come.

How so a problem? On the shallower tanks there is less pressure on the glass so the 3/8 is fine, it won't bow out or anything. Manufacturers use appropriate thickness on their glass to maintain structural integrity. I would only be concerned about glass thickness on a tank that someone (home) made.

Just be careful moving it. The thickness of the glass is really only dependent on the height of the water in the tank. It won't be as structurally sound to move, but will cause no problems once in place.

That's great news. Thank you guys. The reason I asked if it might be a problem is because I went to a different LFS and I was told that I needed to buy a tank at least 1/2 thick if it was going to be rimless and over 80 gallons but that extra thickness almost doubled the price of the tank

Sounds like they are trying to sell you their tank ;).
