I picked up 3 different types of algae when I was in California from the Carpinteria beach. I do not have it easily photographable at the moment but I can get pictures tomorrow. Here is a detailed description of each. I would like to see if they are tank safe to add to my fuge for diversity...

1. Red filimentous algae. Looks like branches of a tree without leaves. It is semi-solid but still bends easily. However it will break like a twig if you bend it over.

2. Red Paper like algae. It is a bit wavy at the edges and is kind of translucent as well. It tears easily.

3. Green colored algae which has the same look and feel of number 2...

I am guessing but I think number 1 is Red Cracilaria and the other two are different forms of Ulva or Sea Lettuce... However I am not 100% sure and will try get pics of each tomorrow during the day.

#2-Botryoglossum farlowianum
#3-Fucus gardneri

#1- My guess would be some form of Rhodymenia sp.

Just my guesses without pics .
