3 Dkh drop in 24 hours?

This is still a brand new frag tank.
There is no long time.
Oh yea.. lol. Do you have live rock in your sump or anything? I had high alk harbored in my first reefs rocks for weeks, I assume in low alk environments the rocks could absorb any excess alk in the system as well.
I’m not sure. I thought it was your mag... :(

Rock is brand new.
Tank is brand new.
Corals are old.

I guess I just have to dose slower and keep testing but it really makes no sense to me how it got that low that fast.

It’s a very small water volume and it looks like you have some big montis in there. You might have that big of a demand, it’s unlikely but possible. My tank consumes 2.5 dKH a day but it’s a full blown SPS dominant reef covered in actively growing coralline and has some very large monti colonies that really suck up the alkalinity. So my instincts would tell me that either there was a precipitation event, or even more likely that the test you did that you got a 9dKH might have been wrong. Generally if I ever get a result that seems wildly out of bounds from what I was expecting I will test again immediately, and probably a third time to see that I get a consistent result, just to eliminate my possible operator error or testing error.

I just did another test and alk is now at 5 dkh.

I checked the 9 dkh three3 ways. Hanna checker showed 9.4. API showed 9 dkh and ReefBot using API reagents also showed 9 dkh.
The high reading was kinda expected because I tried to raise dkh from 5 to 7 but I overdosed.

Im starting to think it's a combination of both precipitation and consumption.
I added Seachem fusion 2 to raise the alk and I raised it more than I should have.
I tested after I raised it and had 9 dkh.
The next morning I still had 9 dkh.
The next day I was at 6 dkh
Earlier today I was at 6 dkh but when I just tested again I got 5 dkh.

Maybe precipitating out a little from too high of a dose and those big monticaps and Hollywood stunner are sucking the alk right out the water.

But that does not explain why my calcium is going down so much slower.

Yesterday I es at 440.
Today im at 420.

Oops...
Reefbot Just completed a calcium test and it came back at 400.

Yeah.
These corals are sucking it up I guess.

Wow.
It may be time to start dosing 2 part.
That's crazy to me because the tank is so new.

So the resolution of Calicum test kits is MUCH lower than your alkalinity test kit. It’s more difficult to see a change in calcium. You’ve definitely got heavy consumers with a small volume of water. Better start dosing, probably gonna want a dosing pump for that tank lol. It’s going to be hard to keep up manually without causing giant swings in your parameters everytime you dose. Good luck! :)

Yeah.
I've got a spare dosing pump around. An old jeabo dosing pump.

I need to figure out what to doser and how much of it to dose throughout the day.

Maybe I'll just dose the seachem fusion 1 and 2 that I've got.
Just have to figure out how much to dose.

Can someone help please. I have been trying to keep my kh around 10 but occasional dosing of foundation b seems to have put the ph to 8.6 with kh at around 9. Is it normal for foundation to increase ph this amount??

If you type in your numbers in this chart it will tell you how to get to where you want.
There is a warning that it will raise Ph and not to raise Ph more than .... per day
So the answer is : yes

When I need it I use Randy's new and improved baked baking soda water. It seems to not effect my Ph.
