My daughter got a 3 gallon desk top aquarium last Christmas. She really wants to do a saltwater tank like me. I have seen pico reefs done this size and smaller. The aquarium came with an led light fixture that I will have to upgrade. The back of the tank has an overflow that I would stick some live rock in there to increase filtration. I would have to do a little water change every other day which is no big deal. I am thinking maybe some mushroom rock or some easy zoanthids. Other than that , any and all advise would be appreciated. There will be no fish in this tank, there isn't the room.

Hi, on pico's the thing you are usually fighting is evap and temp swings. If you are not going to but any fish in the tank, then once a week water changes are plenty. Like you said, mushrooms and zoas are pretty tough, also a snail and a micro hemit will work, also a mini brittle star is good. What will you be using for flow? remember powerheads inside the tank add heat.

I love small tanks:)

I think with your guidance it can be done! Should be pretty straight forward and easy considering what you are wanting to do. :D
