When I said "whatever fish you choose" I meant out of the ones he had listed which were in the very first post of this thread. And what I meant by small I meant micro my lfs has tons of micro ocellaris clowns that would be suitable for a tank of that size . You guys are making it seem as if I am in the hobby to hurt the fish. I'm new to saltwater and I'm trying my best to thrive in the hobby the right way so any advice given to me by a professional at a local lfs and veterans in the hobby I'm going to consider it as good advice. This is why I joined this forum because it has a good reputation of knowledgable, and very friendly people. There are Different ways to correct someone new to the hobby and it certainly shouldn't be with sarcasm. Either way thanks for the feedback.

The green clowns or the yellow clowns stay little. The citrons get much larger. Panda gobies are little too. That load should be fine. Just make sure to keep up on maintenance. Keep an eye on algae growth. If it is out of control or lots of detritus, you have too much. Did you say you were doing corals?
yes only softies

Softies will be fine with any clown goby. The thing about softies is they tend to grow fast. So, expect some trimming. :) Learn the proper methods of "fragging" your softies. All trimming should be done outside a tank that small. That is for future thought though.

I think you are off to a great start. Cannot wait to see pics.

sorry for the bad quality cell pic. also I turned the lights on for the pic so everything closed up. Its been set up for a little less than a month. I just feel like I added wayyyy to large of a cuc so thats why I want to downsize it. And its also time to add the last critter so I wanted advice. So far I only have some zoas a finger leather and anthelia in it.

the zoas and anthelia seem happy and always open but the leather is always closed? any thoughts on that? I only have a single 9watt 50/50 bulb on it but should be getting a 36 watt par38 bulb sometime this week.
and if you can see the cerith in the corner of the tank you see that it looks hugeeeee for this tank.

As for corals I plan to eventualy add some mushrooms zoas and possibly a favia or something but I heard they can sting?

Finally one last thing has anyone kept a maxi in a tank this small? sorry for the long post its all just overwhelming but very exciting!!

Sorry if your feelings were hurt, was not my intention at all.

Not familiar with micro ocellaris clowns, so I was assuming these were regular sized ocellaris.

You guys are making it seem as if I am in the hobby to hurt the fish.
Not my intention. You said to feed every other day so the fish does not grow too fast, I just pointed out that may not be healthy for the fish.

I'm new to saltwater and I'm trying my best to thrive in the hobby the right way so any advice given to me by a professional at a local lfs and veterans in the hobby I'm going to consider it as good advice.
I think it is awesome that you want to do things the right way. Listening to the veterans on this forum is an excellent way to learn. I would caution putting a lot of trust into your LFS. Some are great, others are not. Ask them questions you have researched and know the answers to and see what answers you get :0)

I missed the sarcasm...sometimes it is hard to convey/read the intended tone of a post though. As a homeschooling mom of 3, sometimes I don't have much time and my post are short and to the point. I guess this could be misread as snippy.

yeah my lfs tried to sell me a fighting conch for my 3 gallon

Your tank looks great. Soon that rock will be nice and purple with coralline. That is good stuff. The cerith does look big, but it is fine.

The leather is just being crabby. They are funny corals. They can close up for over a month and then come out happy. Give it time. Also, if you notice it really kind of shedding, this is normal. however, I would try to do a good water change when this happens. Especially in a 3 gal. It can muck up the water good. :)

Water changes will be key to a healthy little pico. I love picos. Once the rock is fully established, you can do 100+ percent water changes and no issues. I do this quite often even on my 40g when I get annoyed with algae.
