Hey All, happy reefing

My 40 Breeder just turned 3 months 2 days ago. I have neon green on rocks (reefcleaners)that’s slowly turning to purple coralline and slight brown algae on glass/sand/powerheads.

Sand was rinsed but still clouds if disturbed, could brown be silicates? Rinsed dry sand and added 12 lbs of live sand at setup. I do gravel vac every weekly water change of 4.5 gallons.

Emperor 350HOB and 2-koralia evo 750s for flow.

Water is ammonia -0
Nitrite 0
Nitrates 5
Phosphates veeeeery low If at all on petco api kit

Don't sweat it too much. When you do water changes vac your sand bed. Let things settle for the next 8-10 months...

The brown is probably a diatom bloom new tank or silicates can cause it too use RO/DI water if you aren't already...

I always ran bare bottom tanks painted black I listened to the kids at the LFS said to use a sand bed never again scrapped it an went from a 40 long to a 55g two weeka ago an havent looked back an I do 10% week water changes. Since I upgraded to the 55g and lost a crap load of bacteria when I ditched the sand bed I now have some diatoms too so don't sweat it let it run patience is the key to successful reef husbandry.
