I have a 120 g 48x24x24 mixed reef. Currently have 2 MP40s on the sides of the tank both vary from 30-50% during the day. They have anemone guards which seem to decrease the flow a bit. No idea what my actual return flow rate is, probably around 1000 gph.

I’m thinking of picking up another MP40 and place it lower on one of the sides pointed behind the rock work.

I would get a MP10 but my glass is too thick. Don’t want cords in the tank so only going with vortechs.

Too much flow? waste of money?

How many do you run on your system?

I have 4 MP 40’s in a Red Sea 525xl plus the 1,400 return pump (ball park with head pressure)… you are good.
I have sand and some areas the MP’s move the sand every couple days. I believe I’m running them at 70%

Wow you're cranking it. Do you have any LPS?

Mixed reef. Sps, LPS and a couple softies.
Although I’m having nutrient issues, it’s not flow related. Been using this setup for… 3yrs roughly? Morning and day I use reefcrest. From 3pm-11pm I use pulse, I like the “look” of pulsing water.

2 on each side and not symmetrical.
Ie: Left MP is high, right MP is low. Both sides are like that if this makes sense?
Last pic of my tank was for algae so it looks dirty. I posted so you can see how I put the MP’s.

3 x mp40s are great, you can always turn the power down a bit, but having them at the right place is key.

I would say there is nearly no such thing as too much flow (especially if it's not constantly in the same direction or velocity).

Pulled the trigger and got another one. Thanks everyone.
