We've been using caleurpa in our refugium for about a year and we've just encountered our first concern / problem. Our refugium is above our display. So, we pump water up to the refugium and then overflow back to the display. We did not put a filter sock on the overflow. Bits and pieces of caleurpa break free in the refugium and make their way to the display. Seemingly overnight (last 3-4 weeks), many of these strands have taken hold and began growing.

We lost our only tang in April and, so, have no natural check for the growing caleurpa. We start an Atlantic Blue Tang in QT on Tuesday. Hopefully a tang or 2 will help tame the caleurpa and we won't have break down rock.

Thanks. We have a regular urchin and pincushion urchin (much to mine and our coral's chagrin). They don't seem to be keeping up, but I think an Atlantic Blue & a Purple tang should make short work of it. We just need to get them through QT.
