A 5 inch male Scott fairy wrasse is probably already a couple of years old. Why would someone pay $300-$400 for a beautiful fish which has a remaining life span of only 3 years or so?

i have been keeping wrasses for the past ten yrs and what I am finding out is the life span of certain wrasses is much shorter than others. But what is throwing me off is how a healthy perfect wrasse drops dead from one day to another with no signs of any desease. Like to hear experiences of...

they are around 5-7 years
and to answer your question, people like staring at them... they look cool
and im seeing that they are from 66$ to 300$, mainly around 200, not 300-400

There’s so many more wrasses that people spend like 2-3x more on large males than they do females. Some examples are;
Roseafascia
Laboutei
Lineatus
Rhomboidalis
Earlei

Oh, that’s for a young male/female that you get 5-7 years out of them.

For a so called “supermale” wrasse that’s going for a good 3-500 you’re looking at 1-2 years of life, 3 if you’re lucky.

If you can point me to a 5” super male Scott fairy for $65 that w/b wonderful. There’s 3 different vendors who have them on “sale” for 299-399. I belong to a fish club who many have had this fish and the Ave lifespan has been 3-5 years old. Other independent sources concur.

I agree washing them grow is the better option. That’s why I ask why why why would someone pay 3-400 for a pretty 5 inch male fish that will likely pass in 2-3 years..,,

I'm with you. I try to get all fish as small as possible. Allows them to grow into their environment and territory, they're oftentimes cheaper, and I find that small fish tend to transport much easier. Kittens and puppies are popular, not sure why people want the fish full grown.
