30 Gallon Reef PI power head/ wave maker recommendations

Hi All,

I am looking to add a wave maker or power head to my 30 gallon setup.

I am currently running reef pi and was wondering if there are any benefits to selecting one over another for this setup. I would prefer not to spend a ton of money on one but would like to know what I am losing by trying to save money.

I also use a reef pi setup, Cant see why it matters..
Reef pi cant (as for today) communicate with a wave pump, si just get whatever you like.
I use two rw8 pumps in my 100g setup

+1 to what Liron said. reef-pi does not provide wavemaker capabilities right now. Most powerheads I have dealt with comes with their own controller

What about being able to use the reef pi timer section and a relay to control powerhead's to give a different flow pattern throughout the day? Is there any way to configure the timers to alternate power back and forth between two powerhead's to simulate random flow like waves or turn some on for 12 hours that blow in one direction then turn those off and others on that blow in the opposite direction to simulate the tides coming in and out?? Ranjib any ideas?

Yes that is trivial and you can do that currently with reef-pi (since 1.0). The cron syntax that reef-pi uses allow things like that and more sophisticated timers.
I am currently working on arbitrary PWM profile module, which I intend to use to build wave makers. This is a meta-feature that will also allow controlling lighting profile at more granular level (minutes instead of hours). My understanding is that we can feed the generated pwm to a BLDC/BEMF controller which in turn will control the power head. Now depending upon the model and what already available from the pump the electronics side will differ, but the software side should be sufficient.
