Hi All - my 30 gallon tall reef tank has been up and running for a year now. I have two clowns, a hasha yasa gobi for fish, and really want another fish. Any suggestions on something that would live happily with them? I also have a number of corals, some inverts, etc. Suggestions

welcome!!

I would look for a fish that is not very active, and stays small. A Firefish, Assessor, possibly a Gramma, or smaller Cardinal would fit the bill. I'm sure there are others I am forgetting as well.

Thanks - I want one that will be visible and doesn't mind being in open water. Also that the clowns won't mind having swimming around with them.

My Helfrichi Firefish is always out in the open. But that would rule out Assessors or Grammas, as they tend to spend most of their day hiding behind rocks (I have had both, and both behaved the same). A Possum Wrasse would be my last suggestion. The tank should be large enough for one. They are not always out in the open, but cruise all around the tank, in and out of rocks.

Actually one final suggestion I thought of. Tailspot Blenny. Perfect for that size tank, almost always out in the open, great personalities, and will munch on algae all day (plus they will eat everything any anything you throw at them).

I like the idea of a blenny..how about a cardinal fish? Think the clowns are too hectic for them??

Or a Midas blenny? My issue is its a 30 gallon tall tank, so not much sand bed. And I have a gobi. Would he do alright in there??

I have a PJ cardinal in my seahorse tank and it is pretty relaxed. It just hangs in the open and doesn't swim much.

I think a midas blenny would be perfect.

I've got mixed feedback on a blenny in my 30 gallon tall tank. Two clowns and a goby in there. Conch, hermits, pistol shrimp and cleaner shrimp. Plenty of coral- tank is one year old. Any other input on if a Midas blenny would live happily??

I have a 29 tall and we have 2 clowns, a Banggai Cardinal, purple fire fish, and a Bi-color Blenny. They all do really well together… The blenny is a character.

My bi color goes after my arm when I go into the tank, didn't hurt but scares the heck out of me lol

Did you add them over time? My clowns have been in the tank for a little less than a year. Best way to introduce a new fish without having them bug out on it? Obv acclimation, lights off. Anything else? Would love to add a blenny and Benghai if my tank could handle it. How old is your tank??

I added all of mine over time. Kept them in quarantine for about 4 weeks as well. I try to always add new inhabitants later in the day with the lights off for a while, then turn the lights back on for a while before they shut off for the night. My tank is just over a year old. The female clown is the only one who causes any problems... She likes to slap her tail around when new stuff goes in.

a small wrasse species or bicolor blenny or canary blenny would keep you entertained for hours hey are pretty active and utilize the entire tank space, good luck and nice setup

I added a small six line wrasse about a month and a half ago - he's friggin awesome. Really enjoying him.
