Hey everyone, I have been creeping around on the forum for many years now and finally decided to join in the fun with my new Set up. I am setting up a 300 gal rubbermaid stock tank for an sps grow out. I will be using a 40 breeder for the sump and I am not to sure about what i should do for an overflow. The sump tank is gonna be sitting right next to the 300 just a little lower so it flows into it. I would like this to be as quiet as possible but not sure how i can achieve this with out an overflow box. Any assistance is appreciated!

The easiest, but probably the worst way, is to run a pipe from the stock tank drain to the sump. You pump the water from the sump back into the stock tank. BUT, if your power ever goes out, the entire stock will drain into the sump. 300G>40G=water on the floor.

The better option would be to drill the side of the stock tank near the top and put in a surface skimmer box. The best option would be to drill 3 holes near the top and set up a BeanAnimal style drain. http://www.beananimal.com/projects/silent-and-fail-safe-aquarium-overflow-system.aspx

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking about trying that but not to sure if I could get an overflow that would stick to the side. I have yet to get the tank but not to sure if the sides are flat enough
