300 gal upgrade in progress.

Very nice. LOVE the Sfiligoi too! Great job.

Thanks!! After seeing your tanks on this site .... it's a confidence boost to get a 'good job' from you!!

Some of your past threads/comments were a help when I decided to go with a Sfiligoi fixture!! I know you had given Tim some rave reviews also - and you sure were right about that - he's just one stand up guy!!

The new fixture finally arrived!! Had a bit of issues during shipping but Tim at Aquatics Elite has been just fantastic about making things right! Got it hung over the tank on Saturday and currently running it at only 40% to begin acclimating the tank to it. Really didn't know where to start with it - but all I know is seeing it at 100% - thank goodness its dimmable!

So thought I'd post a picture of it over the tank. Excuse the cyano outbreak - first time I've had to deal with one and I'm not sure what's causing it. My nitrates are zero, phosphates at .03. But did just check the tds of my top off container and it was at 500 ...... so took that offline and will have to replace it I guess. Gotta say I always knew I was lucky not to have any issues with it ... but boy, it sure sucks!

Might seem like a silly thing to ask but could you post a few pictures of the overflow? I'm interested in how it was combed. I assume it's hybrid glass / acrylic somehow? Looks awesome!

Thanks! I've been so happy with the plumbing and the bean animal system - has run flawlessly and totally silent!

I will try to get some pics for you - are you more interested in seeing the inside or outside/box portion of it? It does appear to be some hybrid ..... the external box itself is all glass and from what I can tell, a portion of the glass on the back wall was cut away making a weir and then a panel of black acrylic with the teeth in it was affixed on the inside glass ( acrylic piece itself extends probably 4-5" down below the teeth and several inches to each side). There is another thick long piece of glass attached beneath the weir in the overflow box itself that comes about half way up the teeth. This was still too low so I added two acrylic rods - one square and one half-round so that there was more just top skimming going on with the tank and the half-round on top kept the water flow into the box silent.

Couple quick I just snapped to try to show the interior acrylic sheet .....

If you look close in this one - you can see the acrylic piece .....

And if you look at this one you can make out the extra piece of glass below the weir/teeth.

Thank You!

Thanks! That's what I figured. Looks great!

You're welcome, no problem .... and Thanks!

Love that coast to coast overflow! amazing tank!!!

Thank you! I'm so glad I was able to get a tank without center braces and a coast to coast - really love it too!!

Thanks so much. Simple and quiet was my goal .... the tank I had upgraded from had such convoluted plumbing - I knew going into this one to keep it as simple as possible!!

Why did u go with sch 80 unctions and gates and 40 PVC? And where do u get ur plumbing

Guess I really didn't see a need for the schedule 80 on the lines themselves - but with the valves and unions - well, I really hated the valves on my last tank - and wanted to go with the best, smoothest, easiest valves I could for the new one. Got all the valves from BRS - and they are remarkably better than any of the sch 40 ones I’ve used. Smooth, easy to turn, fine adjustment even on the ball valve .... can be taken apart for cleaning .....

Updated ....

Here is before and after the lighting change and re-scape done two weeks ago .....poor tank had a hurricane hit and of course I'm having a bit of cyano on the sand now .... ugh. Needed to do some rearranging and xenia eradication though so .....

Nice job on the stand!!! looks like you just skinned it while in place? Do you have plans on doing a matching canopy?? Very nice set up man!!

Stand is awesome and your new aquascape looks great!

Thanks, wish I could take credit for building it! Yes, it was skinned while in place - dear old Dad built in in South Carolina and brought it here to finish!! Thought it turned out amazingly well for the long distance build! I've been debating a canopy ever since I started this build ..... I love the look but hate working around them, however I have finally decided to go with one. Just can't take the light spill out of the tank while seated in the room ..... and right now I have two long pieces of styrofoam leaning from tank rim to light to block ..... not real classy but effective. lol

Thank you!!! I do love the stand!!!
