Hello fellow reefers,

I am looking to start my 300 gallon build and I wanted to get some advice on manufactures and some input on things to look out for and mistakes to avoid. I am looking at buying either a Marineland Stock 300 gal tank 72x36x27, a 280 Glass cages tank 72x36x25 or a 253 actual gallons 72x36x24 Custom Aquarium. Either way, its going to be around $2000. It seems the stock Marineland tank would be good enough, but I want some opinions. What are some of the other concerns I should be looking out for. I'd hate to make this purchase and have hind sight regret. All opinions are appreciated.

I would really consider a higher quality tank than marineland. Glass cages tanks are nice.

If you look at the fact that without the tank being high quality, you either have something that your disappointed in for clarity or you have a big flood....I am not sure who would make the custom tank, but personally for me I would go with the glass cages. Tried and true for reefers....marineland are so mass produced that quality issues are not uncommon.

Have you made a decision? My current take is 72x18x25 and was made by glasscages. They made a basic tank with a divider 6" from one end and I drilled the holes for the drain lines once I received the tank. It's been setup for a year now and I haven't had any complaints

When I was researching my tank build I read terrible things about Glass Cages. I ended up with a 305 from A.G.E and the quality is perfect, starfire glass, PVC bottom, stainless steel powder coated frame, around $2400 or so

You got a 305 tank AND stand for around $2400??? I'm gonna have to look them up for my next tank haha

I would certainly stay away from Marineland, I've seen several 300 spring leaks. Seems they only hold for awhile. Coasttocoastaquariums.com makes quality tanks.

Coast to coast make great aquariums. You pay for that quality but the warranty only holds up if you buy their expensive stand. I got a acrylic 360 built and 120 sump for 3300. Plan what stock you want and get a life long tank . don't buy a tank and plan an upgrade later.

I can't say much yet, since I pick up my 240g long (96x24x24) on Saturday afternoon. But it is from glasscages, a lot of my friends have their tanks and they love them. I got the tank and a 30in tall stand from them for $2336.
