There are a lot of articles and vids on building a plywood tank on the internet. Check them out might be an option for cost.

Thank you! I will look those up and we can go from there. I think today we are going to try to get the stove out of here and get it up on CL :xd:

Sort of. You also need enough room in your sump for a power outage. Return pump stops, tank drains and you better be able to handle that or you're screwed.

And I'm all about saving money, but have you put together a list of everything you'll need to get this tank running and maintained? If you're already stressing about the funds required to do it, everything is more expensive with a large tank. I know your BF is handy but I doubt he's going to build a skimmer, power heads, live rock, water and a ton of other stuff along the way. Take your forecast and then probably double it... just something to keep in mind.

True, back flow was a powerful enemy of mine when I set my sump up for the first time lol.
And I agree with doubling the original budget you have in mind. I'll almost guarantee you will find extras you want (or "need" as most people justify it as lol) to add later. Fish and corals get expensive too and it's not possible to just stop at a few :)
People do build tanks out of plywood. They waterproof them with some kind of brush on adhesive/sealant. Have a look on YouTube, I think a bloke called urajoey did his with plywood.

Our budget as of right now is quite large actually. I'm the one who loves to pinch a penny lol. Anyway I can .. You should see me shop for groceries!

Anyway yes, we have big plans but it seems like it might be on hold in light of the fact that our housemates decided the ruin our livingroom by running the in-wall AC unit and not telling us it was pouring water everywhere.... So now we have to replace the carpet and the tile where the other wood stove in there sits... Unforseen events for sure and very irresponsible of them to blatantly disregard our property and our warning about the unit itself. We know it leaks but if you only run it a few hours at a time and allow it to sit it doesn't leak. But... Its not a discussion for here.

My apologies everyone. This isn't going to happen for quite a while now it seems.
